I am having a tough time deciding what schools fit the best for me in terms of the atmosphere, college life, academics, diversity, networking, opportunities, etc. I am looking to pursue business/accounting/finance. Could someone give me insight into the following colleges that I am considering attending? Anything would be a great help in my college selection process. Thanks!
Here are the colleges I am debating between (no particular order):
University of Richmond
New York University
George Washington University
Penn State University
Northeastern University
UR is a really petty small campus in the suburbs. NYU and GWU are undefined campuses in major cities. PSU is the 800 pound gorilla in the middle of PA. What are you looking for?
Best source of info is really what the colleges themselves tell you about their community, academics, activities, and more. You really need to do this research, not try to crowdsource your college decisions. If you don’t, how do you know what you’re getting into? Or if you even match?
Guessing you’re a junior? Because not all those schools have EA, some won’t have released admit info yet, and you aren’t spposed to apply to more than one ED at a time.
I’m not really sure what I am looking for exactly. I feel like I could adjust to any environment having lived in both urban New York and rural Connecticut. However, I am currently attending a very small school (graduating class size is ~125 kids). Do you have experience or stories you could share?
I have done research into each of the colleges, but the information I found is simply what I found on the websites and from a few years ago. I am just looking for someone who can share their or a friend’s experience so that it can help me adjust my rankings and perceptions of the college. By the way, I am a senior (applied to them haven’t received a response from most of them, but my scores project well into all of their average scores).
I have not received responses from all of them yet but my scores project well into all of their average scores so I hope I can get into all of the above. I am just looking to see someone’s experiences with any of the colleges or anything they have heard recently about them that may help me decide my top school.
Thank you to all of you that replied, I really appreciate it.
If you were my son, I’d tell you to maybe think broadly about the schools, but absolutely not to decide which one to attend at this point. What if you decide one school is your dream school and that’s the one you get rejected from. Deciding about it now will involve a lot of thought and effort that may be wasted.
they are all good places and I would not blame anyone for choosing any of them, no matter what the rankings say.
Richmond and Penn State are more of the traditional college experience, with one being small and one being huge. I would choose UR over Penn State for the extra attention, but I can see how some people would want the big school and the ra-ra that comes with it.
GW and NYU are obviously similar, but it would be hard to turn down the prestige that NYU has over GW, if cost is equal.
Northeastern is all about the coops and the work experience that brings.
If you had all 5 schools to choose from, and cost is not a factor, I think it’s between NYU and Richmond and that is a personal preference- city life vs gorgeous campus. For a less social kid who is not mainstream when it comes to college life, Northeastern might be a good choice.
I’d land on these schools too, for the following (as well as the above) reasons: Stern, deservedly, receives national and international recognition for its business programs; UR offers strong business programs along with an undergraduate focus.
To allow for any preferences that you have left unstated, I recommend you include another school as well to create a group of three choices for chief consideration.
