What colleges in New England/NE have good Nurse Practioner/Physician Asst. programs?

Niece is considering the field (junior in HS)....any suggestions on programs in New England/northeast/PA, etc.

I’ve written a lot about physician assistant programs in the graduate school section. I even found a US News rated list, but it’s several years old now. Search using the words “physican assistant” and you’ll find several posts. I’d also search under on the pre-med forum.

Pitt is considered very strong in anything medical sciences and it offers a graduate school guarantee in nursing. Basically if someone gets into the guarantee in high school, as long as they fulfill the minimum requirements they can go onto the grad school (in this case it’s a choice between a masters or PhD in nursing).

Scroll down to “School of Nursing Guarantee”: [University of Pittsburgh: Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid](http://www.oafa.pitt.edu/guarantee.aspx)

Pitt is not new england. Not even close.

I would advise on Northeastern. They have a decent program and co-op program to help you get a job as well.

notice PA…not just NE

Pitt’s physician assistant program is a masters level program through the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. You need a bachelor’s degree. The field is heading that way. It is located in U-Parc in the Harmarville suburb of Pittsburgh, so it is not a program for someone right out of high school. A good prep for it would be in the undergraduate programs in that school though, (the rest are on the main campus) like Emergency Medicine or Rehab science.

I know of two programs in the Syracuse area (northeast, right?): Lemoyne College, a small Jesuit school in suburban Syracuse that’s had a PA program for almost 15 years; and Upstate Medical University, a SUNY med/nursing/other health professions school, which started its PA program a year ago. Each school recently received federal grant money to expand.strengthen the program: [Feds give more than $4 million to Syracuse physician assistant training programs | syracuse.com](Feds give more than $4 million to Syracuse physician assistant training programs - syracuse.com)

A lot of these are geared towards the graduate level, although you may find some schols that still have it at the undergraduate level. A good compromise would be a school that offers a combined degree program so you can get your degree.
