There are many families out there who refuse to pay for a private univ unless it’s “great”. I know a family that refused to pay for Syracuse, because they didn’t think it was worth it. Their kid went to a just okay OOS public univ. So…even if it’s it’s not right, it’s not unusual. I’ve heard other parents say that they would only pay for what they thought was a tippy top school since their instate public was perfectly fine.
Actually U of Rochester is ranked #33 nationally according to US News. That sounds prestigious to me. S
By a comprehensive standard, UR would appear to place within the ~top 60 nationally (post 23).
@csdad2 the Roch rep who came to our school said in no uncertain terms that they strongly consider interest. Kids at our school got denied or WLed despite high stats, and they were the ones who did very little or nothing to show interest, so if the horse says it, I would listen to the horse.
I think Case Western and Rochester are probably both reaches for the OP. They probably aren’t out of reach.
You’re right! I read the rankings on another college site. I thought they used the USNews rankings for top schools, but they actually have their own system. @citymama9
@citymama9 I don’t understand why you are saying that it’s “not right” for them to not pay for just an okay private school. Honestly, I don’t want them to pay for a school that isn’t that great and have never expected them to just because I personally don’t see the point. I’m definately going to be some kind of a science major and I know many people who have gone to ivy league med schools and graduate school after attending rutgers. At least in my opinion, the tippy top schools give you the great alumni connections and “name brand” but it’s still possible to get into great programs without that.
