I understand the concept of supplementary material on college applications, but of what quality should it be. Can it have been worked on in a group or for ISEF or something. And what form should it take (e.g for research, or for a music oriented material). And what else could I add besides either research or music type things?

You shouldn’t send in supplemental materials (which can be anything from a research paper to a music tape to a creative writing or art portfolio) unless you are exceptionally talented in one of those areas and can see it making a difference in your admissions. The vast majority of the time, supplemental materials are a waste of adcom’s limited time

^second that. Supplement material are not required in any way.

I understand that. So for example, I did an in-depth research project on salivary proteome with the medical college of WI. It was only the primary research and it is in conjunction with a club that will continue next year, so should I add the results from our primary research (we conducted an experiment and did a heavy analysis on mass spec), or would it need to be published quality?

Submit a one paragraph abstract or summary of your research. If it really interests anyone, they’ll contact you about it. Otherwise 1) you won’t have clogged up the file too much and 2) it just might catch someone’s attention.
