Hi, I'm a high school junior in NY who's concerned about ECs.
I only have one "classic" EC currently -- I'm the VP of (and hoping to become president of) my school's Quizbowl club/team. Last year I was on the chess club as well, but this year that shifted to be at the same time as Quizbowl, so I made the decision to continue with Quizbowl. The year before I was on the school's physical science journal. Are those things I can put on my application?
Also, I am currently on the school's newspaper, however that technically is an elective class at my school, so is that not applicable?
Finally, I'm a longtime guitar player (around 10 years) but it's mostly just a hobby -- I don't do recitals or band at my school. The most I do is occasionally work with a private professional "tutor".

Which of these can I put down? Which can I not?
Thanks for any help.

Yeah, extracurriculars are any activities that aren’t the courses you’re taking. This can be music, sports, clubs, at school or outside school. The ones you listed all sound like ECs to me.

I think they are all ECs. I assume you put in after school time on the newspaper as well when you have a deadline, right? If so, I would definitely put that and all your other activities down. And just gonna say… GO QUIZBOWL! :)
