What courses should I take Summer/Freshman year

The summer session is coming up, I've been working hard to finish off high school, but I also really want to have a good idea of the courses I'll take. I've already gone through at least 3-4 different possible schedules, and with all of the new information I keep getting I'm still changing. I'm undeclared engineering, and wanting to go into EECS.

At first I thought that I'd try to get my Comp Sci requirements done and start Lower division technical courses as soon as possible. I was also considering taking additional math my first semester. I also completely forgot that the awesome professors that teach during the year don't teach during summer, and I want to take certain courses with reknowned professors.

I also want to avoid getting burned out or damaging my GPA too early (I want to have plenty of fun my freshman year, but also don't want to waste any time).

I wanted to know if anyone could help me pick a schedule. I'm interested in majoring in EECS and minoring in either physics, applied math, or maybe double majoring in business (more likely I would minor in physics and focus on quantum computing in EECS).

The courses that I've already taken equivalents of are:

Math: 1A, 1B, 53, 54
Physics: 7A
Comp Sci: 61B (need to take 47B)
Chemistry: Chem 1A

I was thinking that I would take Physics 7B this summer, so that I could take EE20 Freshman semester. But I really don't want to start off trying to make up a grade if I don't get an A.

Did anyone start out with those equivalents, and if so what courses did you take?

Is taking

Summer:

Physics 7B
Humanities req. (Not sure which one, but maybe Econ)

Freshman Fall:

CS 70 (or the new one thats EE/CS 70 thing)
CS 47B
Physics 7C
EE 20
Possibly a humanities course as well. I was thinking EE 40 too, but that is probably overkill.

Thanks for any input and any suggestions.

Bump.

This has been bugging me greatly, much more than it probably should. It just seems like everyone else I’ve met at Cal Day and other events have a good idea of what classes they’re going to take.

Would taking Physics 7B in the summer be a bad move if I wanted to minor in physics?

I don’t want to get to CalSO and talk to my counselor with three completely different possible plans, and pick one that will be too difficult/easy, not take pertinent classes for my major, or miss out on excellent professors by taking the course in the summer.

Thanks for any help.

You’re so ahead of prerequisites, you have time to try out any of the plans you want. Don’t really worry too much. You look like a good student.

Taking classes in the summer is always a good idea. Even though it will be a little more rushed, depending on how you learn, it shouldn’t hurt your ability to minor in physics in the end.

Side note: you’re a very impressive candidate. Congratulations and good luck to you. :]

Thanks, I think I’m going to take 13 units my first semester, including a 1 unit course because I don’t need to overdo it.

I guess I’ll probably take English R1B, Comp Sci 61A, and Physics 7C, with the self done course CompSci 47B.

As for which one that I’d do for Phase 1, I’ll just look at the most open ones.

I think that the physics over the summer won’t be too bad, because I’ve taken AP Physics C: E&M, which is clearly not on the same level, but I’ll at least have a background in most of the material.

I appreciate your advice. I’m hoping that I start off well and keep a good GPA, because I’ve no idea if I want to do more research and go to grad school or go straight out into industry (hopefully I’ll be able to do plenty of research and internships during undergrad to find out).
