what da hook gon be?

hey all...I've posted this elsewhere, but what exactly can a hook entail?
would an above-par SAT score --say, a 2380-- count as something special?

A score like 2380 is impressive, but without anything else it won’t get you into a top-notch college.

A hook is something along the lines of legacy, URM, etc. Things that make you special just because you were born into it (to those that have a more accurate description, forgive me if I’m wrong).

thanks! I meant a hook backed up with typical prospective ivy-league-hopeful stats (good grades, service, awards…etc.)

No grades are hooks unless you get a perfect score on AIME.

Hooks are something that is not already expected of you. You are expected to take classes, get good grades, and take standardized tests. How well you do in those areas is good or bad, but not ever a hook. Things that you pursue outside of the normal constraints of school are hooks - Special projects or awards.

See you don’t need no f-ing hook on this app

All you need is the As in your transcript,

Your ECs sick, write the essays with wit and you’ll get in

Nicholas Brooks, is that you?

sorry to disappoint … but, no

some one posted that being a URM will help. Now, some people i know say that being a URM, its ok to have lower scores. But IMO, would being a URM with impressive stats be even more impressive? (My GC thinks that me having an 1880 is acceptable for competitive schools, where I think a 2100+ is acceptable for more competitive schools).

This rap reference is hilarious.

nk, it is very complicated, and no one here can give you a good answer, honestly, because we don’t know who you are FULLY.

test scores, grades, your background, your interests, all play a role. and for every student your background can be an advantage and a disadvantage. just because you are a URM doesn’t mean that expectations are any less, just that they are different.
