i was wondering if someone could tell me the degrees i need to be a registered nurse?

Associates

There are two-year and four-year degrees. The bachelor of science in nursing will have more long-term opportunities for advancement than the associates, but starting salaries are about the same.

The two degrees you can receive are an associates degree (ASN or ADN) or a Bachelors degree (BSN). Both will prepare you to be a registered nurse, but the BSN will prepare you to continue your education should you care to pursue an advanced degree. You could also choose to get your ASN and later get your RN to BSN degree online. The attached link provides a table of the different nursing degrees, education requirements, licensing and duties for different types of nursing [Nursing Degrees | RN Degrees | LVN, ADN, BSN, APN | Charter College](http://nursingschool.chartercollege.edu/nursing-degrees)

There are still some 3 year diploma nursing schools left. Many are run by hospitals. Some have cooperative programs with 4 year colleges to offer a joint bachelors degree.

You need to graduate from a program accredited by the national nursing accreditation system to be able to take the RN certification exam. Some programs that are in danger of possibly losing their accreditation are listed as being on “probation.”

It is easier to get a job with a bachelors. If you can’t afford to get a bachelors right away, you can pass the test with a associates, and hopefully find an employer who will help subsidize the cost of getting the bachelors. Many colleges offer night courses or full time accelerated programs for RNs to get a bachelors.
