I have two departments that appeal to me, and the combination is important to me. It's a little hard to explain all this in 100 words, but I am editing hard!

I'm wondering if those of you out there who are also applying to MIT are focusing on why this particular department you want to study is great at MIT, or why YOU are qualified for and interested in the department. Should it be MIT focused or YOU focused?

I'm focusing on why I like it personally. I'd assume that's the better option this the application is them testing if they like you so the more you tell them about you the better. I wonder if I should include course number though rofl.. I just said the physics department.

haha course numbers won't do anything for you I don't think. I'm working on making mine more personal... because now that I think about it they already know that they are great! They don't need me to tell them!

Yea that was basically my thinking too. I talked about how I got into physics and why I find it so amazingly interesting that I read physics textbooks and wiki pages on it for fun.

No, my essay did NOT revolve aroung 6-3. I mainly focused on why I loved computers, and engineering. I even gave them some of my first memories of computers, and my experiences with programing. Infact, I only mentioned course numbers twice. One said something along the lines of 'This is why I want to attend course 6-3," which I said after talking about myself, NOT MIT. The other time was talking about how good the course was, and said something along the lines of "Other sources of information taught me the syntax of a language, but 6.001 was the first to teach me programming."
