need your advice. also does anyone know where i can get rankings for art history and psychology undergraduate programs?

undergrad rankings dont exist.

but they have an excellent psych department.

the econ and the natural sciences departments are impressive too.

I would also argue that anthropology (my department) is rather strong. I know it seems like an odd major to many. In case you don't want to or can't major the department also offers a minor that neatly complements premed studies and other social science majors, e.g. econ or poli sci.

Thanks for information!:)

Any more info on the strength of the economics department?

I happen to know that my friends who are econ majors are extremely pleased with the strength of the department...as for the other departments, psychology and neuroscience are very strong!

What about political science/government? I'm looking at a future career in international relations...

Does anyone know anything about art history program at Bates?!

I am a psych major at Bates, and I really enjoy it. I have had 5 different professors in the department and I have really liked each one of them, and have heard good things about the rest of them. Econ is also strong once you get past the intro classes. If you're into art history, definitely take classes with Harwood, he's good.

Most popular majors at Bates are Psych, Econ, English, Politics/Political Science, History, and Environmental Studies, and all of these are pretty strong.

the economics department is said to be among the greatest in the country, second only to Swarthmore. the Psych program is right up there too

that's good news about econ and psych... who is saying this?

though there are no formally published rankings, there are programs at different liberal art schools that are ranked according to the quality of the faculty and other factors such as that

well if anyone has a source, I'd enjoy reading it.

There was Bodenhorn's study which is about faculty citations. I found that interesting and Bates fared very well, yet I don't consider it a relative ranking of the programs themselves - it's a look at faculty writing, which is just one metric of the programs' quality. It's also a little old.

while bates does have a good econ program, saying it was #2 in the country would be quite a stretch....

sources, sources.....
