I got my DW the Lulu yoga pants she asked for. Called my step-mom and went to Chili’s with my MIL about 90 miles away. There was an hour and a half wait for Cracker Barrel at 1:45 so Chili’s it was.
H & I visited D, SIL and GD this morning. They live about 20 minutes from us. D gave me an Aura digital picture frame - she is able to send me pictures to show in it. She typically doesn’t get me anything big, but she loved the idea of the frame. It’s pretty cool.
We visited S in the late afternoon. He lives about 75 minutes from us. We got Thai takeout, which was delicious.
I saw all my babies, so it was a good day!
The Aura frames are definitely cool. My kids got me one last year. This year, they both called and got me a Butcher Box gift box and a pass to our local gardens. Happy Mother’s Day! Hope everyone had a nice day.
My eldest is still in school 8 hrs away, but he called. I wasn’t expecting him to remember MD at all! This is my 1st MD w/o him home and I haven’t laid eyes on him since January… I don’t like it.
DH got biscuit sandwiches and donuts from our fave bfast place. Then he and youngest S picked up all the dog poo in the backyard so DH could mow. Ended up buying DH a new electric mower b/c his old toro refused to start.
Had some crab pots for dinner ( S still hasn’t perfected his crab legs skills) and a really nice salted caramel mousse dessert.
S is here with H and me (after living in London for almost 6 years) so that is big.
D called me and both kids gifted me with books that I am really looking forward to reading. They know me well!
@Oldfort, I hope D1 enjoyed her first Mother’s Day
I got Hoka sneakers which I really wanted as I am trying to start walking 3-4 miles a day to lose some covid weight. Also candy, which kind of negates the purpose of the sneakers!
13 year old went to Cape Cod with me for biking and a lobster lunch. It was so much fun. 17 year old was being a jerk but did give me a gift around 9 last night. 18 year old is away at college but she did FaceTime me yesterday and sent me text messages after midnight on Sat night which was nice.
Both my mom and MIL died in the last 4 years so sadly no one to buy for this year. I used to complain about having to spend Mother’s Day rushing 3 little kids from my mom’s to my MIL’s house on what was supposed to be “my day” but now I miss it so much!
My D was home for the first MD’s since high school. It was lovely! She got me some small fun gifts and H hit me a new door wreath. They took care of meals and chores , came on my power walk, and d and I did yoga. Both our mom’s are gone.
Oldest dd called and youngest dd emailed me three ebooks . Her and I often trade books so I am looking forward to reading them. My mom is gone but my husband’s MD gift is traveling next weekend (6 hours) to see his mother.
I got a zoom cooking class for Crêpes Suzette with strawberries in a truffle honey sauce. And a cocktail with some mix the company sent us that we mixed with gin and seltzer. Followed up by a nice walk squeezed in before it started to drizzle.
I received flowers from DIL’s parents, which was a real surprise and our inside joke. It would take years of Mother’s Days to work down the credit from the florist who wouldn’t refund the fully paid balance for the wedding reception that was canceled. S2 & DIL also gave me flowers and a delicious lemon blueberry pound cake baked by S! S1, DIL, GS and GD gave me a beautiful bracelet and D helped me provide brunch for all yesterday at S1’s apartment. They have a 2 week old so I brought brunch and best gift ever was just being together for the afternoon.
I sent mom flowers from all of us (she enjoyed seeing the card with all 18 names written out). Local florists in her area were not taking orders (flower shortage) even 4 days out so I sent gorgeous deep purple calla lilies (which she loves) from Farmgirl Flowers. A bit of “do it yourself” for arranging, but she loved them.
I spent years resenting the time we had to spend on MD with my MIL doing what she wanted when all I wanted was time with my kids, but now that she’s gone I understand better. Though truth be told, she wanted it to be all about her, even when H and I had our kids. I wanted yesterday to be about DIL, the newest mother in our family. I’m lucky because both her mother and I see things this way so we were able to share the day with her and our kids and our grandkids. We’re also lucky that our kids live in the same metropolitan area so that S2 and DIL spent Saturday with her mom (and siblings and their kids) and we got them on Sunday.
Yeah I would have liked to have gotten flowers for my mom but there are no good florists around here. Harris Teeter’s flowers are super expensive and die quickly. Trader Joe’s flowers never open (probably frozen) and the biggest joke of all actually are the local florists. This one person we called charged $40 for 5 stems of tulips. When we saw a picture she sent, the flowers were droopy, the container was plastic, and the arrangement was non-existent. You would think $40 would 1) purchase more than 5 tulips 2) warrant a good vase 3) pay for some nice arranging…
But it sounds like the florists in your area are pretty good or maybe the guys of this household just don’t know what they are doing when it comes to flowers lol
I saw my mom last weekend and gave her some new spring PJ’s which she loved and some small hand lotions she can keep in her purse.
My D’s made me a lovely brunch at D2’s place yesterday. They gave me a cordless vacuum which I had asked for! H and I had a nice walk later in the day and H put together a lovely charcuterie board with a good rose wine for dinner. All in all a great day.
As an artist my (adult) D gave me a painting - her actual handprint with a floral pattern that she knows I love - think those handprints from when our kids were “babies” - she signed it and noted “age 32” which cracked me up. She knows I treasure the one in plaster.
WHOAH! Your D is talented!! I don’t think I could do anything even close to that tbh
Thank you - I need to find a frame that will do it justice.
Michael’s normally has some really good frames if there are any in your vicinity…
There are - I’m actually going to try and find some Rococo vintage flourished one - we have some wonderful “memory-lane” type shops -
