What did you get or give for Mother's Day 2021

Hey everybody!!

Today is Mother’s Day. I was wondering what you got (if you are a mother) or gave (if you are a son or daughter).

I’ll go first:

I am still in HS and she has always been supportive of my dreams and aspirations. She has sacrificed a lot so that I could have a better chance of success in this crazy world. I am extremely grateful to have such an awesome mom. My mom also loves to cook. She is an awesome cook and although I do not really have the credentials to judge someone’s cooking (still figuring out how to operate a darn can opener :joy: ) I am sure many would agree. So… for Mother’s Day, my dad and I got her a Le Creuset skillet. It is very heavy due to the cast iron and we got the “original” red color. She seems pretty excited so I think it was a win!

Hoping that all of you have/had a great Mother’s Day,

AllGoodNamesRGone

We sent our mothers flowers and planters and gift cards. My girls bought me new tires for my car and my younger daughter is buying me dinner on the way home from her rehearsal tonight.

Wow! The tires are actually a really good idea. My mom could probably use some new tires as well…

Yeah I got my mom a foam back roller not too long ago…now I am the only one who uses it. It’s absolutely amazing how many sounds your back is capable of making :joy:

I gave my mom a kiss on her urn (still with us due to Covid), though I do that on most days so I’m not sure it’s super special today. Otherwise I’ve been enjoying memories.

Two of my three kids have called and we had some nice conversation. Our official Mother’s Day is in two weeks when we’re (hopefully) all together, so this is just a warm up. Really though, I don’t need a gift because my primary love language is time. Our being able to be together is the best gift of all. They may get something anyway. If so it will likely be a game to play or plantable flowers.

As part of the “warm up” I bought a large slice of coconut cake yesterday at the store. H and I just shared it while watching a Dry Bar Comedy online. It was delicious. Tonight he’s cooking lamb steaks for us with sides of rice pilaf (we add broccoli to ours), kale, and grapes.

We celebrate the food part of holidays on Saturday. I got to pick dinner. Stromboli’s at a local pizza/Italian place. H also got me a chocolate cake, a chocolate chip cookie and icing sandwich and a Toberlone bar.

Today H got me a running tank top I hinted I wanted. The kids got me a gift certificate to a local art gallery. Older S discovered it when he was here not long ago. He’s an art person. I am not, but I noticed they also do those group classes where you recreate a painting or make something else. I have been wanting to try something like that with H - who is super artistic, but we didn’t have anything here before.

We visited my in-laws and got them a pie from a bakery. And I called my mom (she’s never wanted gifts for events) where we discussed her demise. :joy: a couple of weeks ago I got the idea and told my sister that I want one of my parents’ houses to go to my autistic nephew. My mom wants things to be fair, but I think fair would be to let him have it. Life hasn’t been fair to him and the house is in his hometown area.

D asked what I wanted week before last and I told her I wanted Susan Page’s new book, Madam Speaker. She gave me that and a card as I packed to come home from Nashville on Thursday. S & family mailed a card on Wednesday that I saw in my mail preview yesterday morning. Finally delivered about 6:30 pm last night (thanks to that cost cutting fellow who I hope is fired soon). I have a package from them that won’t be delivered until Tuesday, so I guess this report is incomplete with respect to gifts. Best part is that I got phone calls from both kids & their families this morning before 9 am wishing me a good day. I look forward to retirement when I can actually spend time with my children & their families on the holidays instead of just having a FaceTime call, but that works for now.

I am no longer interested in ‘things’.
Mom is 10 years gone, but got a call from my Dad.
DH is 9 years gone, but hosted his mother for a birthday lunch last week, sent her a card for MD.
Had a video chat with DD who is 6 hours ahead (5,000 miles away).
Had texts from DS and DIL, who are local - we will do dinner out once all are 2 weeks past fully vaccinated.
Expect a video chat this evening from DD, SIL, GC who are 3 hours behind (3000 miles away).

My mom asked me to tell all of my siblings and niece/nephews not to send her any fresh flowers because they died quickly and too much trouble. Guess what my brother sent her?!
I go my mom a sun hat and a camp chair because that’s what she wanted.
D1 got me some face creams (I need a lot of those creams) and D2 hosted a mother’s meal for all of us.

We went to to our cabin for the weekend. My husband’s present to me was cutting down small trees and debarking them with a drawknife. Next trip up, he will use them to make handrail and posts upstairs, overlooking the living room. We’ve had “temporary” railing for 17 years.

You are truly lucky to have that kind of scenery…

Is that a lake in the distance?

Yes, Flagstaff Lake in Maine. The Bigelow mountain range is behind it. The Appalachian Trail goes over the peak and then towards us. It’s about three miles from the cabin. Nice for day trips. We always take water and granola bars for the thru hikers. :slightly_smiling_face:

We bought the land in 1990. 48 acres for less than the cost of a new car. We needed a second car but did without so we could get the land. Then we had trees milled on the property to make the logs for the cabin. We did a lot of the work ourselves. It was definitely a labor of love.

I specified no gifts but H did get me a dozen roses. The happiest thing is that my son, daughter, and son-in-law (and their dog) were all here, all fully vaccinated for brunch. We had a really lovely afternoon together. I feel grateful that nothing else is needed or desired.

I saw my mom earlier in the week (my brother was out today and it is too much for her to have us all together these days) and gave her some little things saying “Grandmother of the Bride” (a mug, a tote bag, and a blue lace mask to match her dress) – fingers crossed my D will have a wedding party late this summer…she also asked for no gifts but she enjoyed these little fun tokens.

I can top your physical presents, folks. Mr. got me a truckload of beauty bark. :sunglasses:

He also stopped by the local store which usually has amazing flowers… not a stem in sight! The cakes were all gone, too!

I was working yesterday and came home to clean outdoor furniture and porch with a new hanging basket. Also, my husband and daughter gave me two lovely bouquets of flowers. My daughter is vacuuming right now… It was nice to have her home this weekend since her college is still on spring quarter.

We love our Le Creuset Dutch ovens, so I think that you gave your mother a wonderful gift, @AllGoodNamesRGone! My husband is making Indian lentil soup in our larger one right now.

My mom is gone. I went to a lovely mother’s day outdoor meal with my aged MIL and sibs-in-law. Kids all called me. Best gift was the before and after photos of my son having FINALLY gotten a decent haircut!
