<p>If I just took courses in a language constantly, how is that different than majoring in it?</p>
<p>At my school the difference is that language majors have to take a variety of classes that go along with the language they are learning. Say you are majoring in Russian. Not only would you have to take all of the actual language classes, you would have to take Russian literature classes (taught in Russian), Russian writing classes, classes on the history of Russia, classes on the culture of Russia, etc.</p>
