What do Grad schools in the US look for? (INTERNATIONAL)

I'm from India and so apart from gpa and a Gre score do they look for anything else?
I have attended education fairs where I met reps from USouthFlorida, UWindsor (Canada) and a few others but they said out gpa and gre scores are foremost important.

So with a cumulative gpa of 7.1/10 as of my 6th semester in Automotive Engng and a GRE score being taken in 2 months time and an expected score of 310+ for sure, where do I stand, though my gpa is certain to rise beyond a 7.5 upon completion in 2015?

Since I will certainly have an exposure to AutoE. what course may I look for?

Research experience, letters of recommendation…

Well, as I said I’m in my 3rd year and we people will have to apply by the end of this year to have good chances and many go by this method. LoR is obvious, that’s why I never mentioned it but apart from the obvious, where do I stand?
ANd what do you specifically mean by Research experience?

Are you interested in a Ph.D. or an M.S.?

Too ahead lol… M.S only. Though I think I would like a course like “Manf.Engng+MBA at UMich” also. But since I think UMich is probably a bit out of reach, are there any others similar to that?

For an M.S. research experience is less important. Many universities will expect you to self fund your M.S. studies so the bar for admission is not as high as for a Ph.D. where they are funding you.

Ok I’m pretty clear on most topics but can you suggest a course? My question is:

 1. What are the most sensible M.S. courses for me to pursue since I already will be specialized in Automotive Engineering? (Even here its a rare course, most people tend to complete Mechanical before opting for Automotive)
 2. Is an M.S.+ MBA course equally comparable to doing them separately?
 3. Which one do you suggest?

Graduate school only makes sense if you have a reason to pursue it. You have not really articulated your motivations for getting a graduate degree in this thread.
