What do guests wear to indoor garden type weddings?

We are very happy to be invited to a wedding for June. The couple really wants summery, fun, garden types of clothing. Nothing dark or heavy. I have a cute floral tea length sundress, and will keep looking for other options. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like what you have would be perfect!

Your dress sounds perfect. I once heard someone describe the dress code for an outdoor dressy event as “Julia Roberts at the polo match in Pretty Woman.” I’ve used it as an example for decades now  If you’re over 40 you get it!

Ditto. Sounds like you are set

You dress sounds perfect.

I would caution against wearing heels that might be an issue (stiletto type) or high platform sandals.

I never wear heels. But the reception is indoors with a level floor…not outdoors.

Your dress sounds perfect. I would bring a sweater, shawl, or something in case the room is cool.

Thanks all. I’m going to look for some other flowered dresses. I think this will be a lot of fun. I have plenty of little sweaters and wraps I can use.

My husband wants to wear seersucker…but he owns nothing that’s seersucker. He will have fun with this one too!

The wedding sounds perfect, your dress sounds perfect. My reception was at a local historic mansion with beautiful gardens with a large tented dance floor outdoor area and I would love to go back and make it more casual (no long bridesmaids dresses/tuxes). We danced all night and there was nothing formal going on.

My daughter recently attended a wedding at a NJ shore town which was indoors at a fancy beach club. The invite said black tie optional, so she went with a lovely dark dress she has worn to other formal events. She was surprised that most women wore flowered dresses instead, following the garden/beach theme instead of the formal theme implied by the invite.

Be cautious if the venue can be windy. Longer, tea-length probably a good idea.

The wedding ceremony and reception are both indoors! No need to worry about the wind.

No heels is a good idea. A friend’s aunt was attending a family wedding and the ground was apparently still a little soft after a rain the day before. She stepped out of her car, her heel got stuck in the soft ground and she fell flat on her face!!

Ok…let me be clear. We will be walking on a paved parking lot to the door of an indoor wedding venue (where we have been before). I don’t need to worry about the grass, or the wind or anything else.

Now that we have that cleared up…any suggestions for DH?

It was just a funny story!

I think the confusion is the thread subject of Garden Type Wedding. Ergo many people thought that meant it was a garden wedding, not an indoor wedding with garden type dress suggested.

For your husband, I would probably go for linen jacket and flowery tie rather than seersucker. But that’s probably because we have a seersucker bedspread.

Maybe a floral tie for H would go with the suggested dress code?

I like that idea. A light jacket with a flower tie if some sort…or a pastel.

Little kid had a garden wedding, and many female guests were in sundresses. Men wore… no idea what they wore as I don’t remember  I think khaki pants and summery shirts. FOB had to wear a suit… I got him a gently used Hermes tie that had cats all over! The tie was quite a conversation piece, lol.

Sounds like you are all set! :+1::+1:

Putting myself in your DH’s shoes, I’d skip the tie given this is a “fun garden type of clothing” event.

Personally I’d bust out the silk Tommy Bahama slacks, linen shirt, no tie, and unstructured linen blazer. Add colorful socks and Olukai driving mocs and I’m ready to party.

If DH doesn’t happen to have a pair of silk slacks laying around, then summer-weight stretchy pants from Vuori, Alo, Mizzen & Main, etc. If no linen shirt laying around, then a performance long-sleeve button-down polo from Twillory or similar (e.g. Mizzen & Main).

If the host says jacket not necessary or recommended, I’d go shirt untucked. Otherwise tucked if jacket.
