So I figured you guys would help me, I'm trying to make a list of things I might need for college...not sheets and that kind of stuff, but more useful things that I will need with me for the rest of my life. Great books, cameras, a warm jacket, a flask...kidding kidding

So what will you guys be buying for your children before they head off to college?

The blue states have decied that posting about Christmas is promoting religion and they won't tolerate it. Since CC is accessible in blue states, no one on CC can talk about Christmas. THIS HAS BEEN A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. Enjoy your lumps of coal.

Yes, I'm from Texas. I have been busy executing people for engaging in homersexual acts. Where is Hanover, New Hampshire? Isn't that part of that commie country called Canada?

^^hahahahahahaha!
leave it to someone to hijack a thread about books and turn it into a red v blue state thing.
have you read "a heartbreaking work of staggering genius"? also, something that i think you would enjoy, from learning a little bit about you over the few days ive been here i would recommend the offical prep handbook. i think thats what its called. i read it a few years back and it spoke volumes to me.

anyways, happy HOLIDAYS. the reason why ppl say merry christmas in red states is cuz theres no such thing as a jew or muslim there. kidding kidding.

Some of us don't celebrate Christmas. Personally, I celebrate the Winter Solstice.

Things you'll need for college, besides the obvious: waterproof shoes and a backpack-covering poncho; more socks and underwear than you'd think (the more you have, the longer you can postpone laundry); poster mounting tape; a few nice mugs and plates; a really good pocketknife with most of the tools--or a decent pocketknife and a Leatherman (not the cheap imitation) multi-tool. A good paring knife and a small cutting surface.

I think before the birth of Jesus, everyone celebrated the winter solstice. It was the beginning of a new time, no longer the days got shorter, only longer. I don't know how you could celebrate that now though. Winter solstice cards have got to be hard to find.

jesus wasnt even born in the winter, any good christian knows that. :) it got moved to december to rival the day of winter solstice later on, and it whooped it. i love that story its so interesting. its like the story of april fools day.

I also like the story of why St. Patrick's Day is on March 17th. They couldn't figure out weather St. Patrick was born on March 8th or March 9th, so they added them together and came up with March 17th.

Vandelay Industries man, Vandelay. Art Vandeley, architect. I probably won't get the DVDs, too expensive. Maybe I can just rent them and watch all of the special features.

i got a nice manual slr camera (regular, not digital) as an early christmas present.. and i also got a leather jacket, and a wireless mouse for my computer.. i got both of these as early gifts as well, so i don't think i'll be getting much at christmas time.. at least nothing else from my parents... and other than those three things, i dont need anything else.. so all i "asked" for is money.. so we'll see how it works out. my birthday is about two weeks after christmas and i know for that i'm getting my january car payment paid for me.. i really don't need anything, so i didn't really ask for anything for christmas. i did need a camera, jacket, and a mouse, and I could of bought them myself but oh well.. it all works out the same in the end..
