Hey, for those who know...

For students who will be going off to college next year, and still don't know where they will be going, are there any good gifts to get for Christmas? What would you guys have wanted?

an iPod! everyone in college has them.

everyone doesn't have them. i don't have any mp3's.

a laptop...most college students need them

i most defnitely second the ipod idea.

I definitely second the laptop, although that seems to be a more traditional grad gift.

Some other things that definitely come in handy:
a printer
an alarm clock/CD player thing
a booklight
practical things for the room, like rugs, chairs, etc (depends if you're flying to school or not...if you're flying then probably better to ask for smaller stuff)
random cool decoration things (hey, I found it fun to be able to have some stuff to decorate my room with! haha)

ummmm...that's about all i can think of. of course it's a good idea to ask for clothes appropriate for the area you're headed for. EG, going from Seattle to Montr

I say ask for money. Money is wonderful.

Here is what I am getting for christmas from other people:

Leather Jacket (already got)
SLR Camera (already got)
Wireless Mouse (already got)
Some CD's and DVD's
Money

Here is what I got myself for christmas;

A new car.

My birthday is two weeks after christmas, and for my birthday my parent's are "giving me" a car payment. Basically they're just going to pay the January payment for me instead of giving me a gift. Works great for me.

Be careful about the laptop--some colleges ask students to buy a laptop from the school before enrolling, so you might want to hold off on that one.

yeah, hold off on the laptop until graduation.. they would make excellent graduation gifts. a wonderful christmas present would be what my dad just bought me: tiffany's necklace with matching bracelet! (for girls obviously lol)

You can't go wrong with an iPod. That's one of the things i'm getting for christams. Yeah, i'm getting the Lap Top for graduation, so it will be new and ready to go.

Regards,

You can get an mp3 player for a lot less than the price of an ipod...when you buy an ipod you pay for the name...also, make sure the person you're getting it for will use it...you can always get them towels or something like that..or the best gift of all...a giftcard

iPods are amazing, not only handy but also completely worth the price, those other MP3 suck, and the battery life isnt as long as the iPod...

my sister has an mp3 player and her battery lasts just as long as my friends ipod. it also was much cheaper, and holds 30 gigs of songs.

buy rechargeable batteries and you can use them over an over again

a flat screen HD ready LCD tevlevision

But different mp3 players sound different because all of them have different sound processors. When you are paying for an iPod, yes you are paying for the name since its an Apple, but you are also paying for an excellent sound processor.

if you really cared about sound quality you wouldn't listen to mp3's in the first place. they are COMPRESSED AUDIO FILES. and yes, I can hear the difference between an mp3 and a CD... which is why i don't have mp3's.

Couldn't you just put cd quality files on an IPOD?

yep. just rip them at a higher bit rate.

All my bit rates are 320! W00t. Many gigs worth of music though. Luckily I have over 320 GB of space on my comp. Unfortunately I only have about 100 GB free :/.

I got a nice laptop ready to go. Brand new Dell XPS, fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. Plus I have this security thing on it where if it gets stolen, I can call the cops and they can find it...almost like a lojack.
