Both of my parents were born in Egypt, which I can prove with birth certificates. I have grandparents who migrated from Nigeria to Egypt because of the Christian persecution. However, I do not have birth certificates from them, as they grew up very poor in village. Honestly, on my pSAT, SAT, etc, I either check "white" or "other" or "african american" I really do not know what to put. I have white in me, I have black, but I am not sure what to put, I will not lie on college apps. Can I put african american down?

I think the common app allows you to check mark both.

Just a quick question though, what do you usually consider yourself to be, or what would others consider your race to be such as your close friends? And is it safe to assume your complexion is probably closer on the white side?

TheBigD: most people assume I am either hispanic, or half black. I consider myself to be Egyptian. I am not white, and I am not black, but I think “other” is too general and is for asians who do not want to be recognized as such. I am basically tan year round. I have friends who are black as well as white, most of them are white/asian though.

Some Egyptians consider themselves African while some just put Caucasian and most consider themselves middle eastern. It’s really up to you and what you feel you identify with.

FYI, you are discussing race, not ethnicity. The only ethnicity of concern for college admissions is Hispanic.

This question has been asked many times, please note the description of the CA:

If your grandparents are Nigerian, check African-American. Apply to whatever schools interest you, pick one, study hard, forget about the college admissions game and have a good life.

^that’s true but OP says his/her grandparents migrated from Nigeria which would most likely count as black. OP you have justification for either decision based on what you’ve told us, so it’s really up to you and what you feel to be truthful. I’m biracial too and I had trouble figuring out how I identified for the common app (because I’m still figuring out exactly how I identify in general) so I know that it’s hard, but just try to pick the option that feels the most truthful. Hope that helps! :)
