What do mechanical engineers actually do?

I saw what one did for a few hours and I honestly couldn't tell you what she did...
I thought they designed mechanical objects with 3D software, but she said the bulk of this was done by mechanical designers (she said they had a two year degree).

Can someone please explain to me what mechanical engineers actually do?

http://www.bls.gov/ooh/architecture-and-engineering/mechanical-engineers.htm#tab-2

ME’s use 3D software all the time, the learning curve behind some of it is very steep, also performing FEA and CFD analysis, even steeper yet.

It’s such a broad field it’s hard to give a blanket statement.

Ulianjay- Thanks, but I’ve already looked at the BLS. I guess I was just wondering from a person. Thanks though.

Sssoulin- Thank you for the confirmation!
