I'm just curious whether the admissions committees at various medical schools view fraternity and sorority involvement positively, negatively, or neutrally.

Depends on what you do with your involvement.

A sizable portion of the classes at my school (~25-30%) including myself were in fraternities. And I know a lot of people at another state medical school who are greeks as well.

The thing is, you have to show that your fraternity or sorority was beneficial for you in making you a better person. You need to either have serious leadership experience either within the chapter, or if you did a lot more out of the chapter at least point to the fraternity or sorority as a catalyst for your involvement. You can also talk about how being a chapter helped you in learning how to deal with people. But if you just list your organization on the Post-Secondary experiences sheet, with no explanation or evidence of positive gain, it won't help you...but that's true for pretty much anything you might list.
