What do people mean by "conservative" and "liberal" in this forum, e.g. when some people say "abcxyz is the most liberal" or "mnpq is very conservative." Some Christian schools are said to be "conservative" yet their students are said to be very friendly and religiously accepting???

Well I'm not native English speaker so somehow I cannot fully understand the words. Could you please kindly explain these two words for me? Thanks in advance.

Conservative = more republicans than democrats, some/lot of evangelical Christians, more religiously devoted students in general

Liberal = democrats mostly, of course Christians are everywhere in the US, liberal colleges are no different. More accepting of different races, homosexuality, etc.

This boils down to basically a party + religion thing. On the right, you get evangelicals; on the left, you get communist/socialists. Most schools in the US are middle of the road, with a slight lean to liberal side.

I don't think it takes a majority of Republicans to make a school conservative. I think a lot of it set by the faculty and administration. Their makeup has a lot to do with it. I think there is a fair number of Republicans on most campuses. It would be interesting to see a study on political affiliation at major universities.

College faculties are overwhelmingly liberal, the degree to which is only superseded by their devotion and loyalty to the Democrat party. Here is some data drawn from a recently released study by Harvard/George Mason:

Political Orientation of College Faculties

9.4% , Extremely Liberal
34.7% , Liberal
18.1% , Slightly Liberal
18.0% , Middle of the Road
10.5% , Slighty Conservative
8.0% , Conservative
1.2% , Very Conservative

Liberal: students, faculty, and administrators are extremely (sometimes insanely) empathetic towards people whom they perceive to have problems or disadvantages (these include being physically handicapped; being black, Hispanic, or Native American; being poor; being not especially smart; being out of a job; being pregnant; and/or having committed a crime). The liberals empathy with these people distorts their logic, and just as they wouldn't like for they themselves to be in these situations, they contort reality so that they are able to conclude that none of the people in those categories is (a) evolved enough to be responsible for their situation, or (b) capable enough to be able to succeed without the liberals assistance, which they perceive as benevolent and which conservatives often perceive as condescending.

Conservative colleges would be much more reserved, less accepting of alternative lifestyles, more likely to have a strong religious presence on campus.

Not to generalize... but liberal colleges are generally more accepting of alternative lifestyles, drugs, alcohol, things like this.

Notre Dame is a bit conservative for a top school, but this is comparatively speaking. In terms of real numbers, I've heard the student body is split pretty evenly.
