Someone posted this topic on their board, and my lengthy and thoughtful response was shot down by all of the stanfurd students.

Now, for some real criticism going on, what are some of the things that the Berkeley students dislike about stanfuurd? Don't hold anything back =]

I only have one small pet peeve...the moment some (NOT ALL) Stanford students find out that I go to Berkeley, their response is something like "Oh...you [only] go to Berkeley..." and immediately begin to treat me as....some sort of lower being.

Well, I want the same thing out of Stanford students that I do in Berkeley students -- for heaven's sake, be level-headed about your school, and realize it's what you do in college, not where you go, which makes you what you are. I dislike some things about the Stanford admissions process, just as I do some things about the Berkeley process, though they are different things. My principal concern is that Stanford's process is very mysterious. I can see something good in everyone accepted, but it's not clear those accepted will make better use of Stanford's resources than those who are not. And perhaps, such a statement would be outright false...in the end, the school assembles a certain kind of class, and that's the bottom line.

I visited the campus my junior year of high school, and for me it was all about the feel of the campus. It was too quiet and I didn't care for the architecture. I didn't even apply in the end.

Stanford suffers the same problem that Berkeley does....

Both schools are in the most attractive state in the nation in terms of females, and yet manage to enroll the very worst looking ones in the state.

I'm not sure many CCers get caught up in the whole school rivalry thing like the average student does. Which is not to say that CCers don't have the same level of school spirit or anything, but it's like mathboy said. CCers seem to be more "level-headed."

Locke is right about the CC-ers, though there are of course the exceptionally frustrating CC-ers too which almost make up for the majority who're somewhat level-headed.

If anything, I'd say Liquidus has it down right about why a lot of students hate Stanford. I mean yes, there's school spirit, but I'd say a good half of the accepted Berkeley students every year also had applied to Stanford (though they didn't get in obviously).
I'll tell you what I hate about Berkeley though. How some classes are hard and the curves aren't even good. Then, by accepting too many students and with a crappy Telebears appointment, an entire semester can be screwed over just in a snap.
And Tadpole, I lol'ed. Sometimes I wish I had gone to UCLA just to look at the chicks. =p (Don't judge me. haha)

Actually, I would say that Florida has more beautiful women than California does.

I also don't think "ugly" is the word at all...smart people in general will go less insane about their appearances, but that can often mean having a more natural charm.
