My AP Lit teacher drilled us about visiting the professor during office hours, but she was never clear to as why or what we do in those, so could anyone elaborate?

I'm assuming you introduce yourself to your professor one of the few early days, then what? Do you ask them for help on subject materials or homework? Do you just chill with them?

Is it more important to do it during to lower division professors or upper division professors or are they both equally important?

Office hours are typically when you can go in and ask for help or to just talk about topics related to the course, and maybe even talk about random things.

You don’t have to introduce yourself to the professor immediately when class starts, it could be any time when you have a question.

I would think both lower and higher division professors are equally important. It’s good to keep relations between you and the professor, so that once you start applying for grad school or jobs/internships, you can ask for letters of recommendations from them.
