I am a freshman and I am very eager to get to know my professors and take advantage of office hours, however I honesty don't know what to do when I am there. I don't really have specific questions or problems I want to discuss, but I still want to make sure the professor knows that I am trying and notices me. This may be a silly question..but can I go and talk to my professors about during office hours if I don't really have questions?! Should I just make some questions up to ask!? I don't want to bother them, but I know I need to visit office hours.

After regularly talking with your teachers it will be much easier to go there just to talk to them about something random. But for now just make questions up, or ask about career/school options if they are in your intended field. Stuff along those lines.

I first got to know my History professor last year by asking him a History question that wasn’t covered in his class (why a particular Saxon King was called by that particular name). He didn’t know, but made a point of looking it up for me, et voila- he knew my name and I felt comfortable enough with him to ask him questions, and eventually, for a recommendation.

well, i would say go to them when you need help with homework and when you have an upcoming test you say professor I have read this part of the chapter and learned this do you have any suggestions on other stuff i should take a look at in order to do well on the test. Also, when you get back graded papers and tests ask him/her to go over what you did wrong on the test or what you can do better. Also along with office hrs show your interested in class by sitting in front, asking questions, and participating.
