Sorry if this thread has been started, but what is a typical weekend like at UM? I'd imagine in the beginning of the year its watching football for most, but what else is there? Is there a beach or some hot spot near by (for spring? maybe) or is Detroit a popular weekend spot? Anything Nonalcoholic related would be the best

just to let you know this was not meant as a bump

I found a thread form 3 years ago, but it wasn’t too helpful. It did talk about the theater on campus, but said they don’t show good movies (is that still true?). Also, is there a nice mall around?

I grew up in the area so I don’t really have any basis for comparison, but I think Briarwood mall is nice. There are shuttles there from campus, it’s a pretty easy spot to get to but the AATA bus hours suck on weekends so your best bet would be a weekday (including Friday) unless you plan to be back by dinner time. There is ample shopping right within walking distance of campus, too, but I prefer to take the bus out to cheaper options.

I personally like the theaters. They do play some strange films and a lot of older ones, but they play normal ones too, you just have to keep an eye out for something you want to see. The university also holds free movie screenings that are a lot of fun.

I am not really a good person to answer the rest of your question since I usually use the weekend to do homework, but I do know that the odds of you ever having any reason to be bored in Ann Arbor are slim. There are zillions of things to do. I didn’t have any spending money last year and was still never short of things to go do for fun.

thanks, and one more question, do professors usually give a ton of homework over the weekends, or is it more you just start an essay due monday on saturday?

Most people go to football saturdays during fall semester. Other than that, some party on friday/saturday nights, whereas some others just kick back in the dorm with friends.
Sunday is usually the day people use to catch on hw, so if you live in dorms, the lounges are going to be full. The library is probably full too, but I’ve never been to the library last yr =p

detroit is NOT a hotspot. detroit blows.

really? Detroit is a city with little to do?

If you want to hang out in metro Detroit, there are plenty of things to do.

Detroit has some things to offer, but it’s dirty and scary and far away from Ann Arbor.

Homework on the weekends? Wow. Yes.

Priorities:
- Get stuff done that’s due in the immediate future
2a. Drink
2b. Relax

Play sports on Palmer field or play frisbee in the gigantic fountain on north campus.

You can drive to one of the Great Lakes or Canada if you want, but it takes a while. Not too long, but a while, so it’d be like the activity for the day. Protip: find friend with car.
