they're not the same, but in my case they're the same. with connections' help the fraud was conducted. (my english is terrible).

to the op:
what i would do is just let your friend apply. wait to see what happens. if she gets caught then haha but if she doesnt then she will feel guilty all her life or she will flunk out of college. basically its a lose-lose situation.

(Banedon, bull your English is horrible. It's not.)

Hmmm...so my friend (American) who just applied ED to Johns Hopkins University just found out her father has a friend at JHU who read her essay before she handed it in and replied with some comments. (Which my friend dismissed.) And apparently this father's friend will write a recommendation or something like that for my friends and tell the admissions committee that she thinks my friend is a great addition to the school. I gather this is like how coaches PR an applicant and push for him/her.

You consider this fraud, banedon, through use of connections? (Mind, just askin' out of curiosity.)

you are right Banedon. connection or fraud (if you got to a school in any of the ways you are a cheat).

The thread starter dude this is for you:
I get your problem as my school also has a sort of stupid kind of gradesheet (its just printed on standard A-$ sixe paper. signed by the co-ordinator and then stamped with the school seal..but its also very legitimate). See basically you cannot do much regarding this and if she wants to fake it let her...its her luck if she gets away with it and if not she will be expelled and black listed and mind you would not be able to enter US for 10 yrs. So thats quite a risk.
And I would even go to the extent of saying that she has nothing to lose. Having failed, then having no integrity she's obviously not going to make it to the good univs coz of the attitude. so might as well let her try this.

hey izzy,"I gather this is like how coaches PR an applicant and push for him/her."

kindly explain

She's very stubborn but she promised to read this thread. I hope she does. Thanks again everyone for the gread advice.

She keeps repeating that as long as colleges don't contact her school she's fine. Did I say stubborn?

and ya know what the colleges will probably never contact the school. But the thing is what if they do. I mean i'd never take such a chance with my career.

Actually if she does gain admission you can report the fraud to the university, or to your HS who can then report. Blair Hornstine is a thought here.....remember the rukus on that one?

OKAY FINE.

this connection helped this someone exaggerate something significant (to the point of faking it) on the app. and this connection, being an interviewer, wrote a fantastic report for this someone, and insert those comments to corroborate that the (fake) thing really is true.

this helps?

Can she really be expelled and kicked out of the US for faking high school grades? Maybe fron the univ/college she may end up attending, but from the US? It sounds a bit radical. Does the immagration care for her integrity?
I hope it's true, in a way. Maybe that will make her back off... I donno...

I would do anything to stop her, but would never report her to a univ. I just can't do such thing.

sigh...wish I had such a CONNECTION at MIT.

heehe me toooooo. and it is too bad ...let her do it then i wud say...........

COZ IF SHE IS NOT MEANT FOR A TOP SCHOOL......... CHANCES ARE THAT SHE WUD NEVER MAKE TILL THE END OF IT

Don't get me wrong, she's after all quite a bright kid. She got 1490 on her SAT's (old one) and 760 on the SAT 2 biology and 790 Writing (when it was still SAT 1).
I had some lab classes with her on 10th and 11th grades and she was a very strong student, as far as I recall. Just has some F's because she missed lot's of tests and classes because of personal reasons.

My quote doesnt stand all for academics........

If u can question ur integrity and ur soul and still get a wrong answer ...chancs are that u will remain wrong.....and if u r wrong till the end ,u willget caught.... may be not now.... and that 4 yrs of college will be a survival.....for other reasons also

I am pretty sure that she can fake everything and get away with it. All it takes is some careful planning. I have experiences with such circumstances (faking ALOT of CS hours, awards, and rec letters) so I am positive that if one can fool his/her GC, that person will end up fooling the college too.

Now, no way am I encouraging your friend to do this, but I dont think you should interfere with her activities. Let her do what she wants b/c she knows whats good for her. Anyways, for all of you whining and advising to him to tell on her, dont feel bad. The world is unfair and its only a matter of "survival of the fittest." So to the OP, I seriously dont think telling on her would be the right thing to do, just talk with her and let her do what she wants.

alien_workshop:

If she ends up doing it, I'd much rather to see her succeeds in it rather than getting cought. No way I would wish for her to fail. I hope she knows what she is doing, I really do. If I were her I would look for someone to help me and explain why I flunked. She has lot's of A's in the toughest classes. But did have a few breakdowns. What can she do? I really wish her all the best and want her to be successful. She is a talented musician as well, and I believe she has potential. I do think she can survive college. And yeah, seeing someone that cheats after all the work I put in my grades really eats me inside, but diff people pick diff paths, her seems wrong, but I do hope fater all it will get her where she wants to be. And our school is huge and public and they don't give a damn if you sign your own recs and send them in the name pf the school. I asked my teacher to write me a rec, here's what she said: "write whatever you think and let me put my name and contact info on it". Now how's that?

You seem to be a very concerned friend, and I wish I had a friend like you. From how you just described your school, I think its very unlikely that she'd get caught. If she's sure that she's smart enough to get away with it, then I do know what's all the worrying about. And it looks like she can succeed given the chance, which she will get in the college of her choice.

Yeah well... I really hope she does well that's all.... And I'm not worried about her making it in college... she's eager to learn. Too bad it's not always a combination of desency and abilities. She does have the abilities.

Blaire781,
u said that she's applyin to the same schools as u. So, hypotetically she may get accepted instead of u. what will say then ?
