What do you do with AP credit?

How does Vassar use AP credit? Can you use it to pass out of the quantitative course? How about using the AP american and comparative government for the poly sci major?

Thanks.

Check [Academic Information - Dean of Freshmen - Vassar College](<a href=“Dean of First-Year Students – Vassar College”>Dean of First-Year Students – Vassar College)

This may be for last year but the new materials will probably be very similar.

I don’t believe you can place out of the Quantitive course but you should ask.

No mention of AP in Political Science [Catalogue - Vassar College](http://catalogue.vassar.edu/courses/poli/) so I suspect they may not give departement credit for AP scores. You can get graduation credit and placement up to a limit of I believe 4 courses with 4’s or 5’s.

There will be a session during orientation that will cover this so that might be your best source.

You can’t place out of quantitative, only into higher level math.

I don’t think any department gives credit for AP scores; again, some let you place into higher classes, but you won’t get a credit for a 100-level or anything in place of it.

You can use AP credit as part of the 34 units needed for graduation.

I’ve found that some departments actually do give credit towards a major for AP scores. AP Biology can be used as one credit for a biology major in that it means your major is 13 credits of work instead of 14. It also allows you to place out of Biology 105. Similarly, AP American or European History can count for a credit towards you’re major if you decide to major in History. That being said, dc89 and ctParent2006 are both right in that the political science major does not allow you to count an AP Political Science score toward your major requirements.

For biology you can skip bio 105 but you still need to take 106. As far as I know, you don’t get credit at Vassar for AP you just place out. Medical schools however do sometimes accept AP scores in place of actually taking courses.
