I need some tips! Whenever I study, I usually rewrite all my notes or type/write notes from the book for the particular section I needa study.
But, everyone's been telling me it's such a waste of time! I really don't know, it does usually help me remember, but I don't know if it's efficient.
I usually just can't read the material, I have to do something with it..
Also, I have a really bad habit of just daydreaming while I'm studying doing homework.. So yeah, I have a bad time concentrating.
So, my questions is what do you guys do whenever you're cramming or just studying.. And how do you guys remember/memorize everything..!?

People study different ways. for me re-writing notes wont do anything, so i usually read it over and over again in my head and basically cram information all at once. Usually it sticks :P

I take several practice tests and go over them in detail. I also ask my teachers questions if I’m unclear on a concept or topic.

For history, it’s either you remember/recognize it or you don’t. In the DBQs and FRQs, the best thing to do is to have a quick refresher the day before.

For lab sciences, practice makes perfect. Constantly doing FRQs and MCs help tremendously.

Depends on the subject. Taking the AP exams I’ve taken as examples…

Read a review book (the night before) for World and US History. Result, both 5s, it was a good, quick refresher of the material.

Reread textbooks chapters of concepts I was sketchy on for Calc AB and BC. Also did a few practice problems. Result, 5 for AB, we’ll see for BC. I blame my 5 primarily on my awesome teacher.

Didn’t study for Lang or Lit. Result, 5 for Lang, we’ll see for Lit.

Went over court cases and legislation for US Gov. We’ll see the result, but the studying was pretty much a waste of time, the exam never got that in-depth.

I understand what you’re going for with the rewriting your notes bit–writing information helps me remember too, though not enough more than just reading it for me to make a habit of rewriting everything. Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re studying the wrong way, you have to make that assessment for yourself. If you’re doing crap on tests, then yeah, change up your patterns, but if you’re rocking those exams, then don’t rock the boat :)

I am watching an anime lol

Ahh thank you guys…! I think I’ll just try sitting down and actually reading haha…

@ lemone
…Which anime? kekeke
Procrastinating on some AP studying? haha

Just because someone got a 5 on an AP exam by studying one way doesn’t mean you will have the same result. You should know what works best for you.

if you wanna do well on tests, don’t memorize. yea, sometimes you will need to memorize, but try to minimize that. always understand the text, and what i mean by this is try to connect concepts. the more connections you can make, the more you will be able to retain. don’t read a textbook the same way you read a magazine and do ask yourself questions. this is called active reading. a good question to ask yourself is “why”? for example, take the 3 states of matter: solid liquid gas. you can either brute for memorize it or you can understand that energy is behind the phase changes.

For me, i only write stuff down to see what i remember. like i’ll close my textbook and jot down everything i know. this is also good for repetition.

try out some of these techniques but be flexible about it.
good luck. :)
