I know it probably doesn't have the greatest reputation, but what do you guys think of this school?

I haven't gotten the best grades in High School, which is which I'd consider going to this school instead of one I'd really feel would be a better fit.

I come from a top 10 nationally ranked HS in FL, and I know I'm smart and very capable.
I have about a 3.85 Weighted GPA and a 2100 SAT, with Varsity Lacrosse and other ECs.

I want a school that has a beautiful campus, is in a cool town, and has a diverse and open minded student population.

It seems you are closed-minded, having dismissed the College of Charleston as beneath you - yet, you want to be among an open-minded student population. I think you are right, C of C is not a good fit for you.

I visited college of charleston this year, and I loved it. It was absolutely gorgeous and the town was amazing. I don’t know if I would want to go there though, because I def feel as though there is a huge party atmosphere which I don’t want. I loved the library and found it very neat. Other than that, I don’t really know. The academics might not be the strongest.

Ctyankee, making judgements on his character and assuming he thinks College of Charleston is beneath him isn’t making you look any less guilty of being close-minded. Perhaps you should open your mind and close your mouth a little more often. Maybe you would have realized that dpc was probably just asking for a genuine opinion.

DPC, I don’t know much about College of Charleston, but SMU is nationally recognized and ranks as a top 100 university. It has a very reputable business school (among other programs), a gorgeous campus, and students come from all over the U.S/world. I am usually only one of two or three students from Texas in each of my classes. While it does have a more conservative feel, Meadows brings in a lot of liberal/artsy students as well. Its campus is right near the heart of Dallas, in an affluent community, minutes from downtown. The location is perfect! I think SMU is a great choice.

“I want a school that has a beautiful campus, is in a cool town, and has a diverse and open minded student population.”

That’s Cof C. In SC, CofC attracts the students who are not into bigtime, college football (no team), who are less conventional than those who may choose USC or Clemson, and who wants to attend a LAC, not a large university.

I’m not sure what you mean by “not the greatest reputation” but I guess you are referring to “partying.” I think you may really be surprised by the level of academics and the students there.

As for “living up to your potential,” you make being able to attend a “prestigious” school sound like the reward, and a less prestigious school sound like the punishment. Yet, many, many wonderful students attend all kinds of colleges for all kinds of reasons. Visit the campuses, talk to students and faculty and you’ll find “your fit.”
