What do you know about MD/PhD programs?

Anyone who has any experience with these programs, please tell me what they're like. What are the benefits of MD/PhD programs, what are the negatives? Which medical schools have well known or highly recommended MD/PhD programs? Any information you have would be appreciated

I don’t know very much, but I’m interested too!
So what I do know:
Different schools have different schedules for when you take the medical school classes and when you work on your Ph.D. For the ones I’ve seen, you do two years of pre-med, do your Ph.D., then do your rotations.
The huge benefit (other than of course getting the Ph.D.) is that at some schools you get your entire med school free with a stipend. (I know this is true at University of Kentucky – that basically saves you $200,000 of debt.) At other schools, only the PhD is free – you still have to pay the regular med school tuition.

This would probably be the place to ask questions:
