If I get accepted, I intend to major in philosophy. I'm curious as to what majors other people here are planning to pursue. If you are currently majoring in philosophy at Columbia, any info about your experience would be welcome.

I will probably do the Joint Economics - Political Science degree. At another institution I would double major, but I anticipate that the core curriculum will limit my capacity to do this.

I just came across [this data](<a href=“Columbia OPIR”>Columbia OPIR) yesterday, and figured it might be relevant. In 2010-2011 GS graduated 307 students with 327 majors (so 20 double majored, ~6%).

The top majors were:
Political Science 15%
History 9%
Economics 8%
English 7%
Psychology 6%
Anthropology 5%
Creative Writing 5%
Philosophy 4%
Sociology 4%
Economics-Mathematics 3%
Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures 2%
Neuroscience and Behavior 2%
Computer Science 2%
Film Studies 2%
Art History 2%
Biological Sciences 2%
Urban Studies 2%

IF I am accepted (finger crossed,) I’m planning to do either Biology or Neuroscience and Behavior, Pre-Med.

If I get accepted I plan to major Econ-Phil but I might just change it to philosophy with a concentration in business

Campaigner - thanks for sharing. That’s interesting.

In addition to philosophy, I’ve considered doubling in econ, psych, neuroscience/behavior, sociology… on my application I actually put creative writing as my intended alternative to philosophy. I’m indecisive about a second major or concentration. I’ll just have to see what I’m drawn to.

I’m looking to major in Physics and have a concentration in German if I get in. Do you have any stats for Physics graduates, campaigner?

I plan on following in POTUS’ footsteps and major in Poli Sci with a concentration in foreign relations.

Physics if I get in. I’m hopeful. At least a concentration. I put CS or Physics in the first part of my application.

@hiimafrican if you change the dates in the url to reflect 2009-2010 there’s a few Physics majors.

I read that there’s only about 25-30ish undergraduate Physics majors.

You guys won’t be able to declare right away. So, don’t spend any time bugging out about majors/concentrations. Also, yeah, double-majoring is cool. But, keep in mind, many majors require a written thesis. One thesis is a heap of work. Imagine writing/editing two, doing the research for two, trying to schedule regular meetings with two different thesis advisors.

Two majors on top of the core is a lot of work to plan for before even setting foot on campus.

Also, JML, there’s no longer an International/Foreign Relations major or concentration. I think that they did away with them in the 90s.
