UW concerned about grade inflation - The Daily of the University of Washington

My macro teacher said that the class I am taking is one of the very important classes if you want to major in business or economics. He has been at UW for 4 years now and he says that just 4 years ago it was not like this; it was not this competitive and believes that it is because of huge grade inflations in recent years.

Ok, what exactly IS grade inflation?

“Grade inflation” is the name given to the practice of awarding increasingly higher grades for average work by students, unintentionally creating an illusion of rising scholarship.

i have friends at uw, one just failed out after a few quarters. a couple other are on the bubble, while a few are doing great. its the student.

I’d worry more about tuition inflation. 32% over next 2 years??

huh? seriously it’s the first time in 2 years i’ve heard that this is an alleged problem. maybe it’s concentrated in departments that i’m not associated with.
