I'm a first year student. Do you think having classes up to 5 is bad? I tried shifting the schedule an hour or 2 up, but it didn't work out on schedule builder...

Btw, my Chem 1AL class is actually on Wed from 8-11, so that my Tuesday isn’t disturbingly cramped :p

Why so many classes the first year? It doesn’t look like your schedule allow you to have a lot of break and study time. What about finals?

If you want comments, you need to give context, such as:

Possible majors you are considering.

AP/IB/A-level scores and college credit earned in high school, if any.

Previous high school course work in math, chemistry, and CS, and any extracurricular CS experience.

You will be spending ALOT of time on Chem 1A/L and I mean ALOT. It’s a whole year of general chemistry equivalent at another university packed into one semester. Math 1A also requires lots of practice problems and time. I am assuming your taking Math 1A because your premed? (since you can’t use AP credit). If so, you must make sure you have enough time set aside to learn the material for Math/chem aside from all other assignments.

I would consider droping the L and S class, since fun classes like that usually detract time from more important ones.

Class til 5 a couple times a week isn’t an issue at all, there are classes much later than that. That’s the kind of schedule I liked having, you get to sleep in every day. Overall your schedule looks a bit busy… you might want to go lighter for your first semester, but it’d be easier to help if we knew more about you (major, strengths, AP, etc).

Hmmm well I already took AP Calc and AP Chem, and although I did well, I just didn’t feel like I should skip them. mean, it is Berkeley. I’m taking L&S so that I can get a grip on what potential majors I could go into–I am currently undecided and my adviser told me that taking this seminar may help me in my decisions. This is only a total of 13 units, so I didn’t think it was really that bad though :(

<a href=“Exam and Syllabus Database - Tau Beta Pi, California Alpha Chapter”>https://tbp.berkeley.edu/courses/ has old final exams to try to help you determine proper placement. If you know the material well, then retaking the course just wastes schedule space. What majors are you considering?

For pre-med purposes, many medical schools do not accept AP credit, but if you will be taking more advanced courses anyway, then these can substitute for courses skipped with AP credit. For example, if you major in math and will be taking Math 53, 104, etc, then skipping Math 1A and/or 1B with AP credit should not be a problem for pre-med purposes.

Yep, went through the old exams and I DEFINITELY need to retake Chem and Calc, haha. Thank you though :)
