What Do You Think About The College Wizard

So I was typing in CC on Google, and I see this link called the college wizard. He guarantees that for $1500 he will work with a student one-on-one via Skype until that student gets a 2400. What's your take on this? Real or a scam? The reviews all have 5 stars.

Hi:

I am also looking for reviews of College Wizard. Were you able to locate any informaiton? Thanks

How impossible. You can never guarantee a score, especially for someone other than yourself.

Harvey Manger-Weil is a well-known for his subterfuge, his ** chicanery**, and artful ruses.

Pwn the SAT did a expose on Harvey, but I can’t find the article on his site right now. Just know: no tutor can guarantee a 2400.

Wow IceQube those are tough words/allegations. Where are you getting your information?

NEW YORK, Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-iReach/ – The National Higher Education Association has named Harvey Manger-Weil “Best SAT Tutor in America” in recognition of his unique ability to teach students how to beat the SAT in just five hours of instruction.

this is what I found online about the College Wizard

Anyone can publish his or her own press release via PRNewswire. It’s not a reliable source.

Plus, Harvey is also supposedly a wedding photographer in his free time.

<a href=“harvey manager weil - Google Search”>harvey manager weil - Google Search;

Lets just use our common sense here. No tutor is EVER going to guarantee a 2400, unless he knows that the customer is capable of reaching 2400 with a little help. It could take someone months and months to reach a 2400, and some may never reach it at all. If it said 2300+ it would be a bit more believable but a 2400, just no.

what is your source for this comment? thankx

The National Higher Education Association named Harvey Manger-Weil ’80 the “Best SAT Tutor in America” on Nov. 3, Manger-Weil said in an interview with The Dartmouth. After 30 years of working with high school students, Manger-Weil said he has devised a system that significantly raises students’ scores in less time than any other tutor in the country, averaging a 310-point improvement in as few as five sessions.
The self-proclaimed “college wizard” said he was “surpised” to receive the honor, and that although there was no monetary award, he was pleased by the recognition. What began as a hobby while he was an undergraduate at the College in the 1970s has transformed into a 30-year venture and a full-time profession, he said.
Manger-Weil “reverse-engineered” and simplified the varied and complex SAT question types into seven cardinal rules, which, if followed explicity, should enable SAT-takers to score a perfect 2400, Manger-Weil said.

Here’s a review of him that paraphrased what PWNtheSAT wrote: [The Fat Envelope Blog: Slimy SAT tutor - buyer beware!](http://www.word-nerd.com/pt/blog/default.aspx?id=150&t=Slimy-SAT-tutor-buyer-beware)

PWNtheSAT took down his article about Manger-Weil though. Today I learned that a friend of mine uses him and most of the resources are just past tests. Sometimes they would just do double tests in order to over test him for about 8 hours so that on the actual SAT, the 3.75 hours would be easy. That’s all I know about The College Wizard.

just google him and you can see that he is not as he appears
buyer beware.

Note the careful wording of his promise: he will “continue to work with a student until a perfect 2400 score is achieved.” It doesn’t say what the continued work involves but more importantly there is no promise the result will be achieved. How many people will “continue working” on SAT prep after 2 or 3 testings?

Even before reading the Fat Envelope piece linked above, I GOOGLED the organization that named him best SAT tutor–careful to put the name in quotes to eliminate like names. Try this yourself and see what YOU find.
