Carnegie Mellon, Rice, NYU, Colgate, Trinity College, Wakeforest, Boston College (all for math/business)

Junior

PSAT 223 (Nation Merit Scholar fa sho), first SAT 2100 (1430 composite, 800 math) but i took it again expecting 730+ CR and another 800 in math

4 years soccer (2 varsity) 5A school

I have been working in a CPA's office for the past couple of months doing accounting, and will continue until i leave for school. He and his friends i have done work for (including the number 2 divorce lawyer in all of houston) are willing to write great recs for me.

I am doing ALL AP/IB classes at my high school and am an IB diploma student (which means automatically that i have tons of community service and the like)

GPA is about 4.2 weighted, about 3.3 unweighted (I know pretty bad, but ALWAYS straight As in math)

Havent taken SAT IIs, but all practice tests i have gotten an 800 (have taken some math I and IIs)

Do you think if i work hard and make straight As my first semester senior year and write wonderful essays that i can be accepted to some of the above schools? What about ED?

PM me if you want to read my common app essay

I say you stand a good shot. but don’t by any means expect that you can pull all As in IB. ever. especially if you’ve never done so before. especially in senior year. don’t just think that working yourself insane one semester is going to make up for everything.

3.3 isn’t too bad for IB. it’s not great, but not bad.
don’t have someone write a rec for you unless they actually know you well. does that number 2 divorce lawyer in houston (not a nice title in most circles, i might add) actually know you beyond you as some intern who works for him? if so, then perhaps he’s a good rec. if not, it’s just fluff.

my experience is that people who graduate with full IB diplomas do very well if they are very interesting people. from what you’ve put, no offence, you don’t yet qualify. see how you can sculpt that.

cmu: reachy
nyu: sure
BC: maybe
all the rest: really not sure.

oh im a wonderfully interesting person if youd like to read my common app essay i can PM it to you. i actually dont really know what gave you the impression that im not interesting. thank you for your input though ( and its offense, not offence )

You should be fine at most of those except for Carnegie Melon which I would say is a pretty big reach considering the GPA. If you can get the SAT as high as you predicted then you should have a pretty good shot at even CM. Good luck!
