I am confused as to how a 4.2 weighted is “somewhat low.”

I kinda am too…i just keep hearing that my UW is really low. Ive taken all available IB/PIB(5.0 for an A) classes, but ive made alot of Bs.

anyone else wanna chance me??

anyone who views is more than very welcome to post their input!

What’s your rank? That would be top 5% at some schools and top 40% at others.

Oh yeah, its top 15% for sure, probably about 13 or 14.

Oh yeah, also chances at wake forest. I forgot to put that on there…

Awww will someone please chance me :(

will someone who views please post a chancing??

I dunno much about how Rice treats GPA, but I’d say with that SAT and your legacy, you’re probably a shoe in there. Aaaand that’s the only school on your list I know anything about. I got into Rice with a 2030 / 33 ACT, so I think you can relax. Just try to get your GPA up next year, let your love for whatever schools you apply to shine through, and have fun with it. Good luck!

thanks a bunch!

Rice: Yes
Carnegie Mellon University: Depends on grades in sci. courses
Washington University in St Louis: Yes
Emory:Yes
Cornell:Its ivy league… no one gets in…
Colgate:Nvr heard of
NYU:Depends on GPA, half chance

Wow thanks! CMU is my number 1 choice, followed by wash u st louis, emory, and rice. If anyone wants to read my essay just say so and ill PM it to you

Your UW is really low and you don’t have many e.c.'s. That being said, your SAT is good and you should get into a fair deal of these colleges.

Rice: No
Carnegie Mellon University: In
Washington University in St Louis: In if ED
Emory:No
Cornell:no
Colgate:in
NYU: in

Look at the common data sets and see how few most of these schools accept who are not in the top 10% of their class. Than factor in that 40% of the class has a hook and extrapolate how many unhooked kids were not top 10%. It’s not a lot. Your best shot IMO would be to apply to Rice ED. It’s the one school where you have a hook. Not being in the top 10% hurts. If Rice is like most colleges, the legacy benefit requires you to show the love ED.

Alright thanks everyone! From what i’ve looked at, Carnegie Mellon accepts the most amount of people not in top ten percent. Only 73% were in top ten percent, and only 45% had a GPA of 3.75 or higher (according to college board). And since theyre such a young school, doesnt that decrease the percent of legacies and whatnot?

Since at most schools legacies are just parents, no. The largest hooked group at most schools are athletes. But I do think you have a fair shot at CMU.

Alright cool! From what ive heard, CMU is not a big sports school (except football KINDA) so do you think they hook alot of athletes?

I’m an OR grad from Cornell and Berkeley, and attended Columbia as a freshman. PM me if you’d like with essay. Also curious about ECs, which you don’t really list here, and class context. Is your high school very competitive?
