<p>I'm an international student myself and was wondering how fellow Americans perceive foreign students ???? just a question that has been bugging me.... Are you friends with an international student? What do you notice about international students? Would you date an international student ( a guy or a girl.) Tell me all you can, I'm curious....</p>
<p>I've never met an international student because this year will be my first in college. However, I would treat them just like anyone else. If I liked their personality and we had similar interests I'd be friends with them. If I was attracted to him, and he attracted to me then I'd date him. I would probably find it more interesting to talk to foreign students at first because I like learning about other countries and cultures.</p>

<p>I agree with ceecee... in the end they really are like everyone else. There have been a couple of international students at my high school and they were treated normally (as one would expect). </p>
<p>I personally enjoy going to school with students from different nations... it adds another level of diversity and interest to the atmosphere which is DEFINITELY a good thing. In fact, one of the things I wanted in a college was one which had a diverse student body and a nice percentage of international students... so yeah, having students like yourself on campus is a huge positive in my eyes.</p>
<p>And yes, I'd definitely consider dating a guy from a different nation. As long as I'm attracted to him and he's interested in me, I less than care where he comes from.</p>

<p>I actually have quite a few international friends, and my ex-boyfriend is an intl student (or was... he's back in Honduras, now). I think they are really fun to hang out with. New perspectives, and all that. I think they are pretty much just like anyone else, except you know, different accent or whatever. All the ones I know like to party a lot, lol, which is cool with me because I do too.</p>
<p>I know some international students from high school and they're funny, friendly people. I think that international students are brave to be going to school in another country--that's not easy and I admire their effort and the cultural interest they bring to the campus! I'm not in college yet, i have a month, so I can't say about that.</p>
<p>on the other hand some internationals are really irritating. i'm not talking the average kid from wherever, they can be a huge shade of personalities, just like americans. </p>
<p>no i mean those kids who come from countries with major wealth inequality, like they're the 1% that controls 95% of the wealth. those kids think they're something special and look down on americans and america. meanwhile 99% of their countrymen are starving while they go around in bmws and designer clothes here.</p>
<p>Most internationals are friendly and eager to meet Americans (and other people who are from around the world like they are). Their worldly nature makes them more likely to be accepting of diversity than the average American from a homogeneous town. After all, international students are self-selected bunch of adventurous people who decided that they want to go to another country to study and experience new things.</p>
<p>Then again, like Namaste said, there seems to be a small segment of really wealthy internationals who don't take school seriously because their dad is the president of some unscrupulous company back home. They seem to be there to show off expensive designer clothing and go partying every other day, all the while acting more "sophisticated" than your average American college student. I've never actually met any of these people, and I hope I never do, but I'm sure they exist somewhere on campus.</p>

<p>International students are cool and down to earth.</p>
<p>I love international students. It's a big reason why I chose my school. I'd probably be more inclined to date an international student than some mono-lingual American (I base people's worth on how many languages they speak :P). </p>
<p>I do agree about the uber rich internationals who stomp all over the face of human rights. I've met a mix. Some aknowledged that it was just the luck of the draw that they were born into a rich family in Sao Paulo when they could have been born down the street in a cardboard box in a favela. Others act as if it's the poor people's fault that they're poor and have no education. Those types of people of ANY nationality tend to not fare so well at schools like mine, though, thankfully.</p>
<p>I love myself. I will be the awesomest international student ever to set foot on American soil. Can't you see it?</p>

Are Canadian students thought to be international students?</p>
<p>They count as internationals. And it really depends on your definition of internationals. I count as an international, even though I'm actually an American citizen living abroad.</p>
<p>One of my best friends is from Ecuador. i don't know what I'm going to do with her studying abroad next year.</p>
<p>i'm canadian and i've had american students here, and no, we don't perceive them as international students. the "real" internationals are the ones outside of canada and the states.</p>
<p>I actually think international students are very brave people. To be living and studying in a college in a foreign country, sometimes even a country they've never been to or one that speaks a different language.. that takes guts!</p>
<p>Im an international coming from down under and i cant wait to meet americans! My friends and I find the american accent pretty amusing (in a good way) and they told me to come back with one hahahaha</p>
<p>In my experience, international students tend to be nicer and more open than most american ones. I've befriended quite a few and am really glad I did. However, I would be very hesitant to date one because I'm into long-term, and... what happens when they move back?</p>
