What do you think of people who brag via Facebook status, etc?

I’ve done that. i put where i got into college on my status as i got them. i’ve seen other people do it too. don’t be insecure

I limit myself to one status update a week. I hate when other people spam my news feed and I assume many other people are the same way.

I guess that can be seen as bragging.

But for me… if I get an A on a test that everyone else didn’t do so great on… I want to get it out there, because it’s unusual for me to do so well. Is that bragging?

But people who always always always get good scores… Bah!

LOL @ Pinkstarcloud. I concur!

I occasionally use it to brag/complain about academic things; say, I gave what colleges I’d been accepted to, and informed the world of my completion of a 60+ page essay, and proclaimed my disdain at having to do 200 physics problems, etc.

It might be OK occasionally, but I could care less how someone did on their last English test. But most of my friends don’t gloat so it’s alright.

check out what this kid did, it popped up on my news feed:

<a href=“Best Note Taking App - Organize Your Notes with Evernote”>Best Note Taking App - Organize Your Notes with Evernote;

i hate when people state their 2300s or perfect scores via Facebook. like shut up dude, if you’re smart you can show it in many ways, try to be modest about it. anything else i don’t mind. college acceptances too, is not bad to brag… i mean your friends do wanna know where you’re heading too after all.

^^ and wow. 800 in CR. and 570 on math. i don’t get it.

I did when I got my SAT score, because I was aiming for a 2000 and was so excited when I broke 2050. Everyone knew that though, so when I posted it, everyone was excited for me. It’s not like I was bragging to random people.

Test grades? Another story. I’d limit the statuses to SAT scores and college acceptances.

that sounds like my first SAT

I can understand bragging about SAT scores, AP scores, college acceptances, finishing apps or whatever. Test scores/school assignment is an absolute no-no. And personal belongings (like your brand new Mercedes car)… you’re just a shallow jerk.

It’s not really bragging if you flat out say it. You should be happy for your friends that got good SAT scores. Why add them in the first place if they weren’t you friends? :O

It depends on the person. If you know that person, you could probably generally tell if they post it on facebook status as a way of celebrating and appreciating their triumph or someone who needs a proverbial “pat on the back” and obtain attention.

I wouldn’t mind college acceptances. It’s actually a big deal and a lot of people tend to get curious. As a matter of fact, I had Facebook for almost a year now and haven’t made a single status update. I plan to make my first one something like _____ got accepted to University of Pennsylvania!

Acceptable update examples:
__'s surgery was a success! Thanks to everyone that supported me!

YES made VARSITY. It’s a dream come true!!
______ got accepted to Princeton!

I have a friend though and he’s a typical example of a bragger on facebook. Here’s a couple examples:
______ failed the English project. Only a 108%
______ 's project is only 25 pages long. Spent all day on it.
______ owns. Got a 30 on ACT but will get a 33+ next time. (He didn’t)
______ is going to Harvard or Princeton depending on his feeling. Screw #1 in class, he’s only #1 cause he took 5 more AP’s than me. I should be #1. Can’t wait to apply next year.

etc etc

It’s even worse when someone is like “________ got a 1340 [out of 2400] on the SAT! Yes!”
One of my facebook friends was like that at a time, no kidding. I cringed so much.

Oh, but, yeah. I don’t care when people status that they got into their #1 school or whatever. I kind of want to know.

all of my status updates end up sounding like the things people post on ruminations.com … sometimes i even steal quotes from there. with proper citation of course! :]

the one and only time i ever bragged was when i freaked out about getting a perfect score on the act. even then though it was just like ‘oh holy **** 36’ and half my friends had no idea what i was talking about, which does not particularly bother me~

also i highly support posting about college acceptances. it’s a pain having to look up all of my senior friends one by one just 'cos i’m curious about where they’re going :P

If I got accepted to a great college I’d post it ENTIRELY IN CAPS and change the wording everyday just for an excuse to re-post it.

Haha, some things are just meant to be celebrated.

lol. Had to bring this forum back up again.
I’ve seen:

“No. T_T Got a 97 on the test. There goes my 99 in the class.”

Then a convo between me and Person who received 33 on ACT:

Me: I heard you did well on the ACT. Congrats!
Person: “Yes I did do pretty well actually.”
(Me: -_-)

and my favorite:

"What college(s) are you applying to?
“Yale, Harvard, Duke, Princeton, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Emory. GA Tech as backup.”

Add Vanderbilt and replace GA Tech with University of Tennessee Knoxville/Bama/Ole Miss/Middle Tennessee State/U Michigan and you’ve got my school.

lol that’s pretty much my list, except I’m not applying to P, C, or D.

Posting a college acceptance is fine, unless you’re posting the laundry list of schools that you got accepted to. Just leave it at your one or two top choices. Posting specific numbers about a test is annoying. I left it at things like, “I’ll never have to take the ACT again!”
