I am a scandinavian coming to U.S for university, and I am just wondering what do you think of internationals? I am a cheerful blond, do you think I would find friends easily? :)

I answered you elsewhere, but I remember a very beautiful blonde Swedish student at my women's college. She was friendly and intelligent and had a good sense of humor---other women liked her and she was deluged with male attention from all over--even getting love letters addressed to"the Swedish girl" care of the college. When a fashion magazine came to the campus to take photos of students in "new fall clothes" they made Lena their college cover girl of the month!

Everyone loves international kids...most people wont even know you are one unless you stick out like a sore thumb or have an accent (but people love accents anyway so that shouldn't matter). Cheerful blondes always make friends easily so you shouldn't have any problems (decide for yourself if that was a sarcastic comment).

Scandanavians are fine. I mean, I don't think anyone in America really walks around with a grudge or prejudice against Swedes or Norwegians etc. I think Nordic exchange students don't get any trouble. Cheerful blonde you say? You should be fine.

It's the OTHER internationals that have a harder time. East Asians (Chinese, Koreans etc) and South Asians (Indians). The racial difference of course is there, as well as language and cultural differences.

You're a cheerful white blonde exchange student who probably wouldn't have as much trouble speaking English as an Indian or Chinese exchange student would.

Really, I don't think you should be really worried. Many OTHER international students from different continents have a harder time settling into and assimilating into American college life.

Both my suitemates this year are International students (why I got matched up with them, I'll never begin to understand) from China. They're both having a somewhat hard time, which is only made worse because the two of them don't really like eachother and neither of them like me... I honestly feel bad because I have a really difficult time trying to communicate with them. I think had communication been easier, a lot of these problems would not exist, but considering I live like 3 feet from them and have not spoken to either in about 2 months, it's not a good thing. So I thinik that simply by being able to speak English and communicate with everybody you'll be fine.

That's quite the quandry.

all swedes I've met spoke perfect english and were wonderful, tolerant and charismatic people. especially the cheerful blondes;) you'll be just fine
btw speaking of internationals and their adaptation, how do you guys find eastern europeans? compared to scandinavians, we are a tad more different from americans culturally, ethnically, linguistically... scandinavian languages (excluding finish) are closer to english than slavic tongues. so are ee poeple on you campus integrated? sorry for the off topic, I was curious but didn't wanna start a whole new thread.
