what do you think =) ?

Hello! this is my first "chances" topic... what do ya think? please let me know if i have missed any info...

Chilean female, second generation going to college.

My grades aren’t A’s or B’s… so far, I can tell you that I have had 6.0-7.0, that are MB (muy bien = very good) in almost all my classes (so they’d be As), and I had a B in 10th grade when I changed of school, to the better in my area according to the national tests made by our government, and I got B (5.9) the first two trimesters in Math (I came with 6,7 from my old school in Math, btw), but then the third I got a 7, and the other B’s I got was on the Art class… you’ll see, here, we have a studies program, on whit almost all the classes are mandatory (in 11th and 12th grade, besides the regular agenda, we can choose if we want Spanish/Math, Chem/Hist, Bio/English as a Foreign Language…), and I have not any strength in manual arts. I’ll explain that to the admission office. The courses we have to take are Spanish, Math, Physics, Bio, Chem, Hist, Philosophy, Gym, English, Music, and the three electives, that in my case are Math, Chem and English. (Sadly, in my old school, art was an obligation). Besides school, past January I went to summer school at Universidad de Chile (the best ranked Chilean university according to international rankings), where students are chosen from all the country to go there, and, if I get in this year, I’ll go next January too. The course I took was Math II, and this January I want to take Math III.

Outside the classroom, I was Money Keeper of the School Counsel, President of my class, received voice and guitar classes, competition of bands, animal activist, have made a lot of propaganda about vegetarianism, English debate team, church activities, etc.. I am not a sporty girl… I usually go and play soccer, basketball, and in summers I have made a lot of trekking… and some extreme sports, such as rafting, rappelling, etc.. but all of my sport activities are out of my school, and are not constant.

I’m pretty sure my teachers’ recommendations will be very good, but I have no idea how my counselor rec will be.
I’m going to be the first person in my school’s history that will apply to an international university, and, up to where I know, there’s just one Chilean student in Yale college.

About SAT, haven’t taken it yet, and since I want to apply next year and I don’t have the money to pay for the SAT a lot of times, I want to really prepare for the time that I’ll take it. Same with TOEFL.

Next year, I’m planning to be a part of Vicaría de la Esperanza, which is a catholic organization, that make volunteering and a lot of works I love, want to take English classes, and to reinforce my knowledge in Math, Spanish, Bio, Chem and Physics. If I’ not applying this year, is because my family isn’t in the best money moment right now, and if a put myself in the place that I got into Yale, there’d be a lot of expenses that we couldn’t afford…. By next year will be better…

I have worked in summers and winter breaks, and have had some occasional works during the school time.
