what do you wanna do after college?

I got some good advice for FutureNYUstudent to make his goals a bit easier and more realistic, hehe:

Become editor of Forbes magazine.

Make Forbes 400.

naturefreak - the Great Gatsby life sounds pretty good, assuming you actually get the wealthy socialite without being murdered!

I also want to be a writer - mainly fiction for youth and children, but I'll dabble in all sorts, I think. I'm interested in being an English and/or drama teacher, maybe in an inner-city area. I also plan to go to grad school for architecture, but that may be a few years after college, possibly when I am married. I'd like to work mainly from home (writing books and designing buildings. We'll see how all that works out.)

Some of my life-long goals include classically educating my children at home, and possibly founding a school for in-depth, academically challenging work of that sort, or aiding other homeschoolers in those pursuits. I'm big on education because I believe that every child has the capability to succeed - I'm big on the "nurture" not "nature" side of that debate.

Go to Stanford Law, hopefully meet future hubby there. Get law degree, practice corporate law for a few years, get married to someone who makes $$$, get a few horses and be a rich housewive then mom. Spend all day with my horses, maybe teach riding lessons or manage a barn for fun.

If I don't marry someone rich: keep working as a corporate lawyer until I've built up at least a million in savings (including investments and home equity), then step down to an inhouse lawyer, somewhere less pressured where I have a little more time on my hands, get horses, spend all my free time with my horses, eventually retire and just work with horses while I live off of realestate investments.

It's tough when the one thing you LOVE requires a rediculous amount of cash to do well.

Anyone know anything about the process to become a CPA?

Major in accounting in college-->get your credit hours-->take the CPA exam-->pass the whole thing-->congratulations! You're a CPA.

Advertising sales or business development depending on how well my internship goes this summer and who I meet (serious networking oppotunity). Maybe go back to get MBA.

Go into investment banking as an analyst for two years. Go back to school, preferably HBS or Wharton (hehe) and graduate with an MBA. Back to ibanking as an associate. Hopefully I'll be MD in ten years or so.

After I've piled up enough money, I'll buy properties around the world and just a have blast until the day I die.

I'll own a French castle from the middle ages, a cottage in Stockholms' beautiful archipelago, a bungalow in the jungles of Indonesia, my own tropical island in the Pacific, a 19th century castle in the Scottish highlands, a cabin in the wilderness of Colorado, a vineyard in Tuscany, a cottage in the Peruvian parts of the Andes and finally, an alp house in the German Alps.

I wan't to be able to live! To me, living is not defined by abundant luxury in the choking stress and exhausts of big cities. NYC is where I wan't to work, but it's definately not the place where I wan't to end my days.

wow, how grand. ill be satisfied buying real estate in cities in california.

WOW...Now that IS the life lol..I hope to do something similar, if not invite me over.

Balth...wow. I'm planning to do something similar, only I'm getting off the train after VP to become a venture capitalist. :)

If everything goes as planned, by 35 I'll:
-Have a BS Finance from NYU Stern
-Have an MBA from Wharton
-Be a managing director at a prominent venture capital firm
-Make $800k base and $1.2MM bonus
-Make $2.5MM in equity in various investments
-Live in a 12000sqft chateau in Greenwich
-Own a Gulfstream jet
-Own a summerhouse in West Palm Beach, Palm Springs and Aspen
-Own a chateau with a vineyard in Bordeaux
-Own a townhome in Paris, Geneva, and Honolulu
-Be a member of the Trump National Gold Club in Briarcliff Manor, NY (40minutes from my residence)
-Be married to a georgeous wife who makes 7 figures as well and two kids who are freshmen at a prep school in NYC

When I finish construction on my grand mansion in Greenwich, all of you are invited to a grand housewarming party at my house, catered by the Ritz Carlton. My house will be the only contemporary one in Greenwich so it'll be easy to find. Look for a big white house with huge windows haha. We can import wines from my vineyard in Bordeaux and bring in fresh seafood from Maine. :)

I want to be a lawyer and a novelist :)

maybe be a lounge singer on the side.

I just want to stay out of debt

I'll chalk up all of the other crazy ideas to youth idealism.

However, are you planning on having chlidren at 21? The only way to have freshman by 35 is if you have kids by 21 (unless they are geniuses and you skip them many grades).

I suppose it wouldn't be fair for me to chime in on my own plan...

Already have the BS and am almost done with my MS in geology. Heading off to the #3 university in producing geology professors in the fall. Hopefully by my early 30's I'll be a professor at a small LAC focusing on teaching and getting students interested in undergraduate research in exotic places.

To give you all perspective on how your ideas and perspectives will change through the years...

In my junior year of high school I wanted to be a stock broker, watching stocks was interesting to me and I wanted to make a lot of money!

In my senior year of high school, going into college I wanted to be a dual major in environmental studies and business. I planned to get my MBA soon after my undergrad and open up a nature-related camp for under-privalaged kids. I wanted to give under-privalaged kids an opportunity to experience the life-changing experiences I experienced as a child.

In college, after my first semester, I changed my major to geology and wanted to work in consulting or the likes. Later in college, I decided to go on for my MS to be employable at an oil company as an exploration geoscientist. I also wanted to teach CC on the side, since I love to teach!

After my first year of my MS, I decided that I wanted to teach full-time and applied to PhD programs to help propel my career into the direction of teaching college.

I went from wanting big money to finding my niche and likely won't make gobs of money (enough to be comfortable, but relatively little compared to my educational level). ;)

Enjoy the ride everyone! I'm still in the process, but it's been wild so far! :D

I want to be a mail-man, who works part time. When I'm not delivering the mail with a grin, I will be reading or writing for a blog, called, 'Chronicles of a Satisfied Mail Man.'

Become Car Nazi.

I hate cars. I can't drive them very well, so I'm going to kill them all someday.

haha. is it because they hurt nature?

I would like to be an astrophysicist doing the equivalency of Carl Sagan's job a few decades ago. That or the owner of a widget factory, whichever is more viable.

Yes, cars hurt nature. But mostly because I can't drive.
