I want to ask you guys what do you think is sufficient documentation that we will need so there is no misunderstanding of my child’s deferral to take a gap year, and her merit money will be held for Sept 2021? It is a lot of merit. Nearly full tuition.
What we have done so far is: my daughter wrote her request. The Dean of Admission wrote a return email to my daughter that her deferral is granted, and that her merit money of xamount per year will be given for Fall 2021 admission. I feel good about that.
When she logs into the portal, however, her admission offer still says “Fall 2020” and x amount. So i know we need that changed. While we are on the phone with the university do you guys have thoughts on what else I need in writng? This is pretty important and I dont want any vagueness.
Do you think if they update the portal saying Fall 2021 and x amount, in conjunction with the email, that is adequate?
They will most likely not update the portal. I doubt their computer system is set up yet for 2021 admissions, so they won’t be able to make that update until they are ready for the 2021 admissions cycle.
I think the email is probably the best documentation you will be able to secure. It is from the Dean of Admission, not from an admissions counselor. I would feel comfortable with that, as long as you feel that it is very clear. If you want, you could follow up with your own email to the Dean, stating what you believe is the situation & asking for confirmation of your understanding of the situation.
That is great advice @kelsmom . Thanks for taking the time to help. Good night.
Dies the merit amount reman the same for 4 years?
If you daughter defers will she get the scholarship for 4 years (there may be a possibility that the scholarship will not be offered to the incoming class ) or will she only get it for 3 ( because the 2020 cohort graduates spring 2024).
Get it in writing
