I think everyone and their mother wants to go into Ibanking now a days, but I'm not sure how many of these people actually know the difference.

I myself know the difference between an investment and commercial bank, but I also know that some banks are a mix of the two, as it is no longer necessary to be only one or the other.

My main question is this: As an investment banker, what does you job consist of? What different sectors are you dealing with? Do some of these sectors pay better than others? Does everyone have the same "starting" position, or does it vary by sector? Or is one sector considered to be the one everyone starts out in, and do people move up from there?

What are some specific tasks you do on a daily basis, or even what does a typical work day/week play out to be?

Also, if possible could some people shed some light on the difference (if any) of working at a BB firm?

Finally, a little bonus question: For those of you in Ibanking, do you feel there are things you learned in college that helped you in your career (finance, economics, history, etc), or were most of the crucial skills/resources learned on the job?

Thanks in advance for all input.
