Anyone who says all beer tasts like crap is a neophyte drinker whose budget only allows for Miller High Life or PBR. Or perhaps a closet teetotaller who has not been drinking enough to develop a taste for the quality suff. A cold beer is heavenly, especially on a hot day....

This post assumes that Europeans are, by definition, not uncultured snobs, an assertion that highlights your breathtaking stupidity.

Furthermore, its just plain wrong. On several levels. Firstly, if any people are alcoholics, its Americans. Examine the binge drinking rates of America compares to other countries to understand this. Also, Europeans love beer. Ever been to an English/Irish pub? A German beer hall? A French sidewalk cafe? While these people may drink wine with dinner, they certainly enjoy a fine brew.

There is no greater taste than a nice cold Corona.

agreed, ill be sipping that corona in about 3 days down in the bahamas. :)

and the reason why so many kids drink beer vs. hard liquor are many

****ty delis that are willing to sell w/o carding do not usually carry anything stronger than beer

since beer isnt as alcoholic, it takes alot more to get drunk and can thus be "safer"

I have to say, beer+pizza, beer+burgers, beer+hotdogs, all amazing combos.

Actually i guess i can only think of 3 reasons.

man that is just friggin nasty, beer and pizza, beer and nachos, beer and hotdogs, dude, im'a puke.....

hotdog & sprite sounds MUCH nicer. yea, it may sound gay, but its the truth.

haha. beer is nasty, no matter what anyone says. calling us "uncultured slobs" isn't convincing anyone. go drink wines, vodka mixed with oj (scredrivers..mmm), and tequila. beer just makes you fat and inhibits your tastes buds from sensing something that actually tastes good. btw, i've tasted many types of beer, even that of england, and though i will say not all beers taste the same, they all do taste nasty.

So I guess I'm going to be different here. I actually really like the taste of beer. I will admit that some is much better then others, and if you get a bad brand of beer it can be downright nasty. I tend to throughly enjoy Coors Light, and Miller High Life. Also having it out of a glass bottle does have an impact, it tastes much better out of a bottle. I will agree with someothers here with the fact that it is an aquired taste. Honestly as I've gotten older I find that I enjoy beer much more then I did when I was younger...

Also simple reason that High School kids drink so much beer and yet typically can't stand it is 1) It's cheap and 2) a lot of people just go along with the crowd. If you don't like the taste of something.... Don't drink it. :)

To Zipzoopzabulous-
YOU ARE AN IDIOT. Europeans don't like beer???? GO TO GERMANY YOU MORON. Beer is an ESSENTIAL part of the culture! OKTOBERFEST!!!!!! BIERGARTENS!!!!!!! Also, American alcoholism is MUCH higher than that in Europe. That said, most american beer tastes like a$$, especially the $hit you get in college (natty, keystone, red dog). Most mainstream american beer is also bad (budweiser, miller---AWFUL). Corona (Mexican), Beck's (German), and Heinekin (Dutch) are decent. To get really good beer, you need to go to europe. In Germany each city has microbreweries. For instance, Munich has 6, Augustiner being the best. Since the beer tastes good, you can enjoy it with food or as a refreshing drink (i.e only drinking 1), whereas in college it is drunk for the purpose of getting drunk. Europeans are much more sensible about their drinking than Americans. I always get sick/hangover with liquor, which I why I stick to beer. Furthermore I think zipzoopzabulous whould not be allowed to make any more comments.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, you don't like the taste of beer but you drink tequila? What?!?!

You people are all morons. I bet your idea of a classy cocktail is a Long Island Iced Tea. Most self-respecting adults haven't made a screwdriver since junior prom.

alcohol isn't meant to taste good...infact...it's not even meant to be consumed :)...i don't see it newhere on the food pyramid and your body doesn't use it in any way, aside from destroying braincells. Screwdrivers suck, vodka sucks, and you talk about beer being horrid? Tequila...NASTY stuff..tequila is just as bad if not worse than clear and cheap liquor. And no matter what anyone says...drinking is not classy..."hey i'm gonna go knock down my neuron count today....i have class...." doesn't matter what you drink it all does the same thing ;).

Beer isn't that bad...it's very very very much an acquired taste.....i've drank it a couple of times and still haven't acquired it, but the taste becomes more tolerable as time goes by.

Now...even when I drank...i didn't think it was "classy." Yes it's fun sometimes, but I know what it did to me....It's stupid...and i've been stupid a couple of times....

Drinking most certainly IS classy. This may be difficult to understand in college, when drinking is mostly confined to sweaty keg parties in the dorms. But in the real world (ie business lunches and dinners, cocktail parties, other celebratory or other formal events) it is expected and cherished. Nobody likes a teetotaller. You may feel all high and mighty staying sober, but guanteed all of your sophisticated company is laughing behind your back and dying for you to leave their presence.

And FYI, drinking 1-2 glasses of wine or beer per day has been shown in study after study to benefit your health.

"And FYI, drinking 1-2 glasses of wine or beer per day has been shown in study after study to benefit your health."

so can be green tea, or vegetable juice. alcohol is alcohol no matter what one says. if they drink in moderation yea who cares no big deal.

drinking definately isn't classy....doesn't matter how much you drink...whether it be a cup full of liquor or a sip...you kill neurons every time you do it :)...and no....i'm sure nobody laughs behind anyone's back for staying sober....that's absurd...as was your comment :)

furthermore..."sophisticated" company can hope for someone sober to leave...but by doing so they lose all sophistication and class :)

don't talk to me about class and sophistication....you don't know who you're arguing with...

Most people on CC have a few neurons to spare...

Finally someone that gets what I'm saying. Can't forget that lime though.

To cswim06 and nirvana:

I HAVE LIVED IN EUROPE BEFORE IDIOTS. English do not usually drink beer; they drink spirits and lagers which are NOT beer. Europeans do not usually drink beer--there are many types of alcohol.

Frankly if you think Americans are more alcoholic than Europe you are mistaken. The PUB is the social core of the UK; Germany is second in drinking behind Ireland. The UK is third. Honestly people, I HAVE LIVED IN EUROPE BEFORE YOU IGNORANT FOOLS so don't lecture me on my ignorance when you haven't.

Europeans definitely drink more alcohol than Americans. NOTE I HAVE LIVED THERE BEFORE SO QUIET you ignorant, provincial fools.

cswim: The French usually drink wine; we're talking about BEER remember, not wine. UGH There are DIFFERENT types of alcohol. If you read the thread carefully you would realize that someone insulted us as "uncultured snobs." My sentences relating Europeans and "uncultured snobs" were separate--as in I was not insinuating that Europeans are necessarily cultured. I have LIVED IN EUROPE BEFORE and am not that naive to believe that.

Nirvana: Be quiet. Seriously. Until you have lived in EUROPE, stop condescending on others and telling them what Europeans do. You have absolutely no idea what European culture is like and how they treat alcohol as their social core, so please stop making a fool of yourself.

ONCE AGAIN PEOPLE: I HAVE LIVED IN EUROPE.

Zipzoopzabulous, I'm from Europe, and I can tell you that Czechs, Germans, and many other people, particularly in northern Europe, drink beer and/or very similar fermented beverages.

Also, per capita drinking and rates of alcoholism are not necessarily related. Germans consume a great deal of alcohol, typically beer; and it is pretty hard to become an alcoholic from beer consumption.

Germans? Who cares about them. :/)

I'm saying that the fine good almighty all-knowing all-powerful witty splendid English tend to think beer is nasty (and they also tend to be somewhat alcoholic. I mean if you can drink 35 drinks without dying..you're pretty tolerantly alcoholic).
And yes the UK is in Northern Europe.
