what does everyone think of their financial aid this year???

so my parents still haven't filed their 2012 tax returns (apparently FA isn't too high on their list of things to do) so I still don't know what aid I'm getting. but i am so worried about not getting enough money and then having to go to my state school (not that there is anything wrong with that but SMITH).

what did everyone think of the aid this year? generous? not so generous? any other upper middle classers (whose parents are rich enough to look good on paper but would really struggle to pay 40k a year) want to share their experiences?

I got $0. I don’t know if I should even bother filling out an IDOC.

i got a pretty great package but then again, there’s no way my parents look good enough on paper to be able to pay 40k a year - not sure if this helps. Good luck :)

My aid was very generous, and it’s very close to what my parents had estimated they could pay, but I don’t think this will help you a lot, my parents look anything but rich on paper :stuck_out_tongue: We’re middle class, but middle class by our country’s standards, not American standards.

I got 56,000

My d gets in the order of $40k. Our income would fall in the mid-upper middle class. Look, everybody’s situation is different so this question is very tough to give a fair answer.

Yeah, I’d say it’s hard to know a “good” vs. “bad” finaid package; each is done on a case-by-case basis
Have you tried the net price calculator? It’ll probably fall within a few thousand of that.

Our aid is very dissappointing. In fact, we may not be able to send our d to Smith now, despite it being her first choice. Mt. Holyoke gave her 20K in scholarship and 10K in aid per year. Connecticut College 24K grant. ANother school gave a total of 23K in non loan aid. Smith gave the least with a total of 18K in grant aid. It is the most expensive school she applied to and we do not have 42K/year.
