I'm an international student who will be starting college fall of 2015. I'm obviously starting the college process now and I'm slightly confused. I was looking at UNCC and I noticed that it said that there is no Freshman Housing.

Does this mean that freshmen cannot live in a dorm on campus? Or that it's a first come first serve kind of thing, where dorm space for freshmen is NOT guaranteed?

Thank you all so much!

Freshman housing is housing that is exclusively for freshman. If they don’t have freshman housing, it just means that they don’t have dedicated housing that is only for freshman. In other words, you’ll be sharing housing with sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Where did you read that? From a quick google search it looks like you’re referring to UNC Charlotte, but I can’t find anything indicating “no freshman housing”. Can you link us to where you saw that there was no housing, so we can see the context?

For non-commuter schools (basically everything that’s not a community college), most of the students living in dorms tend to be freshmen. If a school has dorms, it has housing for freshmen.

Some schools will refer to certain areas as freshman housing if it’s for first year students only, or sometimes just to distinguish it from upper div housing (some schools only let juniors/seniors live in certain housing/apartments). That depends on the school.
