Ok, I was wondering because some schools require that I have at least 30 credit hours before I transfer. I will have 29 when I end this semester and I'll be applying for the fall transfer. Does this mean I can't apply until I complete the 30 credit hours or does it mean I must have at least 30 credit hours before I transfer? I'm very worried because I don't want to stay another semester at my current school. I hope I don't have to wait and apply for the spring 2011 transfer season. That would be a pain.

Most schools will allow you to apply without the minimum hours completed so long as the deficient hours are in progress. For example, you have 20 completed, 10 are in progress this semester and you want to transfer in the spring. What most schools will do is require the submission of your transcript at the end of this semester before confirming or denying your application. If you’re applying for the fall transfer next year, are you not planning to take any classes in the spring? If you’ll be at 29 and your target school requires 30, you can check with them to see if there is a way to get around that deficient 1 hour, or I would suggest enrolling in an elective or general ed course in the spring to get you over that 30 hour mark.

Oh ok, I get it. Thanks. And by the way, I’ll be enrolled in the spring semester taking an additional 15-20 credit hours so by the time I transfer I’ll have at least 44 credit hours.

Yeah then you’re fine. When you submit your application there is usually a place to list the courses that are currently in progress, so they’ll be able to see that you’re over the 30 hour mark.
