What does it Really Take to get Admitted to Harvard

Oh my God, PorSK, you don't want to know what my friends and I do with Trivial Pursuit :p We're total losers, haha.

~sigh~ I love how corranged leaves and the conversation stops dead. Well, you know the old proverb, "You can't have fun without a lesbian."

committed straights???

hmm...whats that :D... i am PMing you something corranged cutie..:D

guitar,
can a gay replace the lesbian...:D
(omg...eeps)

ooops...looks like everyone is a commited straight...here..hehe

i was joking guys...you can carry on..:D

Ew I'm not lending you my Pursuit cards anymore!

Well, Guitar, I'm obviously the life of the party. :p

The life of the party is iwannagoivy. :p

Who is iwannagoivy anyway? Sorry I'm not up to the CC standards of knowledge.

Meh someone weird from the early action decisions thread.

Oh, I don't really follow that thread. Too bad, it seems!

Back to the intended topic...

Is legacy really that influential in Harvard admissions? Where did you get that 40% figure?

I have heard that legacies can get in with lower SATs and stuff. But what about with mediocre ECs? I have a 2370 SAT + 2400 SATIIs and a top 10% GPA at a competitive feeder school to Harvard (26 got in last year out of around 375 students). But my ECs are not good. Do I have a chance? (I am a legacy-but my mom didn't donate money or anything).

legacies usually have higher chances to get in. (i suppose__

flipsta i think your chances would be incredible. ynless like there are 30 other kdis with boards as good as yours which i highly doubt. you have an amazing shot

A Nobel Prize....or two.

basically all you need is something and that specific something is whatever they are looking for to fulfill their quota

that something could be being the best flutist player in the united states, being the best debater in the united states, being a world renowned novelist, or it could just be an insanely high IQ backed up by high grades, standarized test scores, etc.

the harvard people are forming a class and want it to be well rounded and basically they have certain quotas that they are looking for...this amount of minorities, this amount of arsty people, this amount of nerds, this amount of engineers, etc.

you just have to be the best of all of the applicants that would fullfill that specific quota

and yes, i agree, it is insanely unfair and rediculous but i gotta suck it up...college apps due in less than a year now SCARYYYY

Does a high IQ help for admissions?

Um, they probably won't care if you say on your app "My IQ is ___". But if you have a high IQ and you work to the best of your ability, Harvard should be realistic :)

The SAT Reasoning Test is the current replacement for the IQ test (in expediency but not in principle). The IQ test is no longer politically correct. Indicating an IQ score would be an anachronism at best, an offence at worst.

....Can we go back to the fun stuff?
