What does it take for an English major to get into an Ivy League school?

I assume a high GPA, especially in the major, having one or several pieces already published, and noteworthy roles in on-campus literary groups and events. But most importantly, a blazing brilliant personal essay. : D

This is only my idea of what they're looking for. Any ideas/input is much appreciated. Thanks

Most universities, unless they have a specific school for that major, don’t really ‘discriminate’ based on intended major. Of course these specific schools would be Wharton at UPenn or something similar. English majors will face the same standards that history, science, and engineering majors face for their admissions. They also know that people can (and often do) change their intended majors before declaring them. So you may go in thinking you’ll be an English major, and then have a great philosophy major that opens you up to that subject leading you to change your mind.

Also know that getting into an Ivy (or top-tier school) is often a crap shoot. Every year there are people with 2400’s on SATs, 4.7+ WGPAs, and valedictorians of their class that don’t get into top schools. Almost EVERYONE that’s applying to these schools have amazing achievements to note on their application.
