What does it take to get into CSLB?

Hi, im currently a u.s. citizen living and going to highschool overseas, and I have been overseas ever since 9th grade. I got into cal state fullerton, but got rejected to cal state long beach (which was what i really wanted). Honestly, i thought my grades were fine until now, could it be because i haven't takes any A.P. classes? (they don't have them at my school) I only got two or maybe three B's throughout my four years of highschool, the rest are alll A's. S.a.t. score of: 1910. 1280 if you don't count writing. and for S.A.T. 2: 730 math IC. 600 math IIC and 680 BIO.
i just need some closure i guess. is CSF even good?

P.S. while filling out my application I forgot to mention my "music" class or course for all four years, even though it's on my transript. (but they didnt ask for it) but then again im guessing it doesn't matter.

Thanks!

What’s you’re GPA? What classes did you take soph, junior and senior year?

You seem to have good stats, but you could of applied for a very impacted major, I’m not sure.

You can also appeal, and the lack of AP classes could have affected you. What country are you in currently?

CSUF is a decent school, it really depends what major you’re taking at CSUF.

But if you really want to go to a better school then transfer to a different school after 2 years.

-yearly cumulative total gpa grade nine: 3.34 (even though i didnt get one b that year) umm grade ten: 3.86 grade eleven: 3.58

  • classes i took soph yr (the way they’re written on my transcript): english, math, french, bio, I.T., history, music/art, p.e.
junior yr: eng, math, chemistry, I.t., Sociology, physics, music/art, p.e.
senior yr: eng, advanced math, economics, bio, physics, history, french, I.T.
(but on my app. i wrote arabic in every yr since tenth grade but i just noticed its not written on my transcript because there are no credits for it in the American system) i dont see how it could be written on my semester reports but not my transcript. i really dont know but csf didnt seem to mind.
-my major was biology. but i thought the university accepts you and then they consider your major. a friend of mine got into usc but she didnt get her major and accepted going there undecided. Honestly, i have a huge feeling i’m going to change my major, i’m not that passionate about it as I used to be.
  • isn’t too late appeal? how do i even do that? what i got my rejection letter for cslb it said you could appeal within 15 days of your rejection, unfortunately by the time i read it was the fifteenth day, and its hard to act fast when your across the globe.
  • Im in Egypt
  • isn’t it hard to transfer from a cal state to a uni? and isnt there any way i can change my rejections now? i feel like going to highschool overseas gave me an undeniable disadvantage, and ive worked so hard to get into an average school. thank you btw!!

It’s not really hard to transfer from a CSU to a different university, you just need high stats.

And yes, usually colleges accept you regardless of your major, but you sometimes hear a different story as well.

It must have been some kind of technicality with being a foreign student. It’s not too difficult to get into CSULB. The average SAT last year was 960/ 1600 which is way lower than yours. I got in this year with a 950. If you really want to go there, maybe you should transfer. The only other CSU I would consider going in the Los Angeles area is Cal Poly Pomona.

so should i pick cal state fullerton or riverside?

You should choose UCR over Fullerton. UCR is a low tier UC while Fullerton is a mid tier CSU.

How would UCR and CSULB compare?

From what I can gather CSULB is one of the top tier CSU’s, while UCR is as you claim a low tier UC. Lets say I want to attend USC or UCLA for graduate school would I have a better chance coming from a CSU or a UC?

@meoowww

UCs have a bias towards other UCs. So your chance is higher at UCR, but if you’re extra-curriculars, GPA and test scores are far superior to a UCR student, then the person from CSULB will get accepted.
